Acting CDC director halted an internal report and blocked the agency’s in-house journal from publishing a study that found last winter’s COVID-19 vaccine cut emergency-room visits by about 50 percent and hospitalizations by about 55 percent. Agency staff scientists had cleared the analysis and the study had been scheduled for publication in the CDC’s flagship scientific journal before the director stopped it. The study measured effects among healthy adults last winter, and its removal keeps the agency’s own vetted data out of its official scientific record.
