Michael biopic criticized for ignoring Jackson's controversies
Director Antoine Fuqua's forthcoming biopic Michael focuses on Michael Jackson's life while largely omitting the abuse allegations and broader context surrounding those claims. NJArts critic Stephen Whitty calls Michael "a popular, sanitized version of Michael Jackson," saying the film emphasizes career triumphs and spectacle over accountability. The movie is set to premiere soon, and Times of India reports producers are already discussing a possible sequel. This matters because the film could reshape public memory of Jackson for new audiences without confronting the serious accusations tied to his legacy.
Raise your hand if you're NOT going to see the Michael Jackson biopic
Right after I finish not watching the Melania movie.
Oh HELL no. I'll pass on the lies and glorification of a deeply flawed pedophile.
If I want to see a pedophile on screen, I’ll tune into a trump speech.
No way I spend a dime or a minute to watch a pedophile's biopic. www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...
“But I’m gonna post about it because I still want to be part of the online conversation!” 🙄
I don't support pedos, living or dead.
Why not give his nephew a shot? His son Prince and his brothers all support it. The man is dead. People practically worshiped Elvis and every third rate performer in Las Vegas imitates him and there have been movies about him starting non-relatives. No one was bothered.
Don’t need to. Saw the whole show live.
He was a monster, end of story.
ZERO interest. False propaganda from the Jackson family. Nope.
🙋♀️ nope not even a tiny bit interested.
Asked if there will be a sequel, a member of the family replied: "If the price is right!" I don't need to see this film when half the family members claim it's lying or leaving out things (like the sexual abuse claims), and the other half seems primarily motivated by the money and not the truth.
if i feel like being lied to, I just turn on the "news"
No plans to enrich him while he is dead.
Of all the movies I will never see, this is definitely one of them.
Michael is a pedophile I'm glad he's dead hehe 😁
You mean watch the TV Mini Series Jacksons the American Dream on Youtube... ... youtu.be/Hfu4d-rxGls?...
I’m definitely not. And I watch everything. I even watched On a Wing and a Prayer (2023).
Why wouldn’t anyone wanna see the king of pop? Michael is still in a class by himself.
I couldn't be tempted with enough of anything to make me go. After his massive overexposure surrounding "Thriller", I got thoroughly sick of him and have been so ever since. And then he just got weirder and weirder...in short, no thanks, a zillion times over.
Can you raise your hand if you are waiting for streaming?
"It says that people don’t care that he was a child molester. Literally, people just don’t care." www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...
Yeah. Survivors of CSA (like me) have been saying this. bsky.app/profile/alex...
Goes for a lot of other abusers in the entertainment/media sphere too It's stuff like this that makes me feel like the human race is generally pretty shitty & the world would be a better place without any of us around
They really don't though. It's unbelievable. But yet here we are
Honestly, the cult of personality is responsible for so much, and social media has to accept its part in that.
He gets the pass, though, doesn't he? Like Bowie and John Peel.
Went long for PCHH today, as MICHAEL rolls into theaters and attempts to do a friction-free reset on the legacy of an artist who was my very first and most intense pop cultural obsession. This was a tough but rewarding project to work on: www.npr.org/2026/04/23/n...
Do I argue that the hilariously terrible MAN IN THE MIRROR: THE MICHAEL JACKSON story -- in which Flex Alexander resembles ashy, near-death E.T. by the end of the movie -- might still be the most emotionally honest dramatization of MJ's life we've gotten yet? Yes! Yes, I do.
Great episode. Would love to see more episodes like this. @ghweldon.bsky.social going deep on some gay nerd topic. @lindaholmes.bsky.social diving deep into food competition lore. And @idislikestephen.bsky.social with a 45 minute talk on the best songs to cry too. (He may have already done this)
This was really great. Would love more one-off long form from PCHH
Took me a few days to get to it, but I really appreciated it when I finally got to listen. Jackson and I were very close in age, so I essentially grew up with him (even watched the cartoon) and although I have the worst memory in the world, I remember exactly where I was when I heard he had died.
If you correctly post "Michael Jackson is a pedophile rapist" or "Woody Allen raped his kid" a bunch of absolute freaks come out of the woodwork to scream at you. It's insane
Boy that is the truth. I said that about Woody Allen and brought receipts and was inundated with people saying "I don't protect pedophiles..." and then went on to browbeat me that Dylan was manipulated by Mia and poor poor Woody. Believed everyone else other than Dylan - it. was. gross.
If it's the one I'm thinking of, she seems to have stopped since the last Epstein release, having spent a long time claiming all suggestions of a friendship were lies Actually clicked to see if she was here...
This post reminded me of this youtu.be/WU08aCN109U?...
Choosing to see this Michael Jackson movie is a garbage choice. Don’t do it. There’s no way it’s even a good movie! There’s no excusing this movie’s existence. I’m really saddened by all the talented people who involved themselves.
You can see him as a tragic figure and victim of abuse without ignoring the fact that he turned around and abused children himself. He was a genius. His music was incredible. I even understand continuing to listen to it. But seeing some boring biopic to try to reset him in the public eye is awful.
Ever since I saw the second trailer, it just reminded me of Walk Hard so I saw Walk Hard again. I hate by the numbers, cliff notes musical biopics.
Anyone else finding all the Michael Jackson stuff at the moment jarring?
Its a by design history rewriting effort by his estate
Yes! Even Bubbles was a wrong un’, this from Popbitch this morning..
Yep. Frankly I find the whole thing gross. But he's one of thise famous figures that have an actual cult-like following. His fans will never admit that he was a pedo as they see him as an almost saint-like figure 🙄
Musically I always found it jarring. But once the child sexual abuse allegations surfaced, it was far more than just his music that was jarring.
Weird timing. I thought that story was told out.
