Texas Tech bans student theses and most classes from covering LGBTQ+ topics

educationApr 23, 20268363

Texas Tech System issued a policy banning degree‑culminating student research that "centers on sexual orientation and gender identity" and restricting coverage of LGBTQ+ topics in most core and lower‑level courses. The policy applies across the System’s five universities, will be implemented on a rolling basis, eliminates programs and course material focused on LGBTQ+ topics, and requires instructors to omit textbook chapters on those subjects. By forbidding theses and dissertations on SOGI topics, the measure removes a primary route for scholarly study and could curtail research, public‑health projects, and academic pathways related to LGBTQ+ issues at Texas Tech.
