Sega launched the SEGA UNIVERSE initiative and a new website teasing anniversary projects for legacy franchises such as Out Run, NiGHTS into Dreams, Sakura Wars, Streets of Rage, Dynamite Deka, Guardian Heroes, and Segagaga. Creators are producing concept art, remaster mock trailers, soundtrack remixes, retro sprite redrafts, animatics, and cosplay that reimagine key moments and aesthetics from those games. I find it disheartening that they showed gameplay of games like the new Streets of Rage and Golden Axe almost 3 years ago, but the news now don’t show any progress. Makes me think these vague announcements aren’t worth much and the stuff from 2023 may be dead.
