Independent Bookstore Day, Chicagoland hosts biggest celebration yet

booksApr 25, 20261413,390

More than 80 Chicago-area independent bookstores are taking part in today's Chicagoland Bookstore Crawl for Independent Bookstore Day. Participating shops across neighborhoods from the Loop to the suburbs are staging one-day events with in-store activities, raffles, and special promotions. The crawl is the largest local turnout yet and gives readers a chance to discover new titles, pick up exclusive items, and directly support neighborhood small businesses.

A sunset-orange book cover showing a wooden stump with a skull sitting on it. The skull is wearing an old hat with a mesh veil across the face, and two signs hang on the stump (with the book title and the author's name on them). A large knife is rammed into the stump between the two signs.

Rainbowofcrazy Comics 36: Life Pro Tips "Joanna's (terrible) life pro tips." 1. "You can get more reading done if you sacrifice your sleep." Jo holds a stack of books in her arms. A stack of books lay behind her. 2. "It's easy! Just read a really good book before bed." Jo sits in bed, a slightly crazed look on her face, staring at her glowing phone, which is propped up with a phone holder. 3. "BAM! You're now an exhausted reader like the rest of us! You're welcome!" Jo holds a book in one hand, and gives a thumbs up with the other. Her face and long hair a giant mess. Jo: "Follow for more tips!" Rainbowofcrazy.com

Insomnia The moon in the bureau mirror looks out a million miles (and perhaps with pride, at herself, but she never, never smiles) far and away beyond sleep, or perhaps she's a daytime sleeper. By the Universe deserted, she'd tell it to go to hell, and she'd find a body of water, or a mirror, on which to dwell. So wrap up care in a cobweb and drop it down the well into that world inverted where left is always right, where the shadows are really the body, where we stay awake all night, where the heavens are shallow as the sea is now deep, and you love me.
