Rob and Alan named today's Bird Of The Day theme "Long Necks" with an alternate theme of the Paridae tit family. Sample submissions include an immature American white ibis photographed April 21, 2026 at CREW Rookery Trail in Bonita Springs, Florida, a glossy ibis shot in south Crete earlier this month, plus a Sandhill Crane in Lodi, California, a Brown Pelican at Half Moon Bay, and a Blue Heron in Stockton. Contributors also posted Paridae examples such as Black-capped Chickadee and Tufted Titmouse to represent the alternate theme. The prompt encourages photographers and birders to showcase contrasting body shapes and habitats, from long-necked waterbirds to compact tit family species.

A blue tit that has just taken flight from a branch, though it looks more like it’s jumping as its wings aren’t outstretched. We see the branch running diagonally from bottom right to mid left and out of focus foliage behind owing to a shallow depth of field.
