Today's Bird of the Day theme is 'Long Necks', with an alternate theme of 'Species Paridae' (the tit family). Contributors are sharing mostly photography that ranges from wetland rookery and shoreline wader scenes to close-up backyard feeder portraits. Standout entries include a great blue heron stretching and opening its beak in Colorado, an immature American white ibis at the CREW rookery trail in Bonita Springs, Florida, and a blue tit captured mid-takeoff at a garden feeder. Also in the gallery are tricolor herons and egrets in rookery group shots, sandhill cranes and brown pelicans on coasts, plus small tit family portraits like tufted titmouse and willow or marsh tits.
