Jamie Raskin rebukes Dana Bash over blaming Democrats for WHCD attack

On CNN's State of the Union, host Dana Bash asked whether Democratic "heated rhetoric" helped fuel the White House Correspondents' Dinner attacker, prompting Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) to sharply reject that framing. Raskin pushed back forcefully, saying Democrats should not be blamed without evidence and noting officials have not confirmed a motive while Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told Bash the suspect is not cooperating with investigators. The exchange matters because it shapes whether political rhetoric is treated as a cause in coverage of political violence and leaves motive unresolved as investigators continue their probe.

I hate Dana Bash's suggestion that nonviolent "heated rhetoric" is somehow responsible for violence. Heated rhetoric is free speech. The Declaration of Independence was heated rhetoric.
