Canada unveils $25B 'Canada Strong Fund' sovereign wealth fund
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced in Ottawa the Canada Strong Fund, Canada’s first national sovereign wealth fund, with an initial capital allocation of C$25 billion. The fund will invest in nation-building projects, aiming to derisk private investment by partnering on infrastructure, green energy and housing initiatives. Carney said the federal government will also tap other capital sources, including "unlocking the full value of federal assets", which could involve selling or securitizing public assets to scale the fund. That creates a new national financing vehicle that could accelerate large projects and reshape how Ottawa manages public assets, making the move politically and economically consequential.
We’re introducing the Canada Strong Fund — Canada’s first sovereign wealth fund – to create more prosperity for Canadians now and for generations to come.
No. This appears to be about you funneling taxpayer money into risky oil and gas projects that have no future market but branding that as a 'sovereign wealth fund' which is NOT what this is: bsky.app/profile/cono...
All I see above me is a bunch of people that don't remember. Carney was the head of international Banks before this and understands how money works.
So many critics with no economic/financial experience constantly denigrating PM Carney and our govt. Canada is lucky to have an internationally known, respected, intelligent, well educated banker/economist as prime minister. (Most of our previous PMs were lawyers.) 🇨🇦💪🏻
It needs to be protected so new governments can't mess with it. Ever.🍁
This is Trudeau making Canada pay for the pipeline x 100. Remember the MOU pipeline that people said wouldn't happen because no company in their right mind would fund it? This is what it is for.
If I were two of me, I could not be more pleased with this. Sign me up! 🇨🇦💪
I have a question Prime Minister, Carney. What are you doing to combat disinformation and blatant propaganda that attacks Canada, Canadians, and you? It's really bad.
Blah blah private partners blah blah. Fuck the wealthy. Tax them more
Conservatives will spend it if elected.
Mark you need to explain where this trillion dollars are coming from. Explain how it is like Norway’s fund. For their fund is solely funded by oil revenue. It shows on our Fed website Canadians will pay. Canadians can’t afford to at this time. @mark-carney.bsky.social youtu.be/CoAucCCaDWY?...
Carney is a Hero and saved Canada every day in so many ways. Greetings from Germany. By the way Gretzky was always a coward, dumb like hell and weak as fuck. Total loooooser clown
Very exciting news! Looking forward to more information and how to invest in this new fund.
This is NOT a wealth fund. You are just lining the pockets of wealthy corporations and asset managers with OUR tax dollars. Indigenous ownership and management should be prioritized
Communist group led by Discord(A)nt account below. 👇 They actively follow the PM posts, cry and insult his every action and spread misinformation. I implore you to block them. They will attack you in droves if you call them out. Our democracy has been assaulted enough, and it's time for them to go!
Odd choice to be encouraging typical Canadians to invest in a sovereign wealth fund during a period of intense wealth disparity and sky-high cost of living expenses. Feels a little "cart before the horse" in terms of building up Canadians' financial futures.
So you're making the oil and grocery oligarchs rich but not implementing UBI which would actually create prosperity for Canadians and new generations to come. How do you convince yourself people actually want your dogshit policy?
OK, so this is not a sovereign wealth fund, it's just a variation on the failed Canada Infrastructure Bank model where public money 'de-risks' private capital in order to 'catalyze' investment - www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRYa...
Sovereign wealth funds generally invest globally, focusing on long term financial returns: www.ifswf.org/what-is-a-so...
Thank you. It's pretty exactly the opposite of a sovereign wealth fund
I don't think you're going to get rich Canadians to invest in anything bigger without the government guaranteeing all the risk. It's why we are where we are.
Here is a box of cookies. Not true, it's a box of pre-crumbed cookies. So disappointing.
Today, Mark Carney announced the Canada Strong Fund – Canada’s first sovereign wealth fund – part of our plan to build a stronger, more resilient, more independent economy that benefits all Canadians.
This is a man with Vision, balls, and someone who put Canada first, we are lucky to have him,,,,with all his investment strategies, Canada will be the best again soon
I wonder how long it will take before PeePee craps all over this ?
