Studio destroyed original Star Fox puppets, report says
The studio behind Godzilla Minus One destroyed the original Star Fox puppets after their natural rubber cores with glued fur and feathers began deteriorating from air exposure. The puppets were built by attaching fur and feathers to natural rubber, and the studio said that material combination breaks down simply when exposed to air. With the physical figures destroyed, collectors and historians have lost original artifacts that could have been conserved or exhibited. The incident underscores how fragile mixed-material practical effects are and why early conservation is crucial for preserving film props.
The fate of the Star Fox Snes puppets has been confirmed by Japanese FX company, Shirogumi, in a recent article stating they were ultimately destroyed after production due to them slowly deteriorating from simply being exposed to air. #starfox #snes #supernintendo #nintendo
VFX artist Takashi Yamazaki first got on board working at Shirogumi in 1986 as a model artist and then went on to pursuing VFX later on.
Tragic but I'm thankful we still have iconic photographs of them, these things are vulnerable to decay as are all things, but their image lives on in professional quality and is remembered
