King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived at the White House today and met President Donald Trump, beginning their first state visit to the United States as monarchs to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence. Charles will meet Trump again and deliver an address to a joint session of Congress as part of efforts to spotlight and strengthen the UK and US special relationship. The visit comes amid strains after President Trump publicly criticized members of the royal family, and Charles intends to use ceremonial events and bilateral meetings to repair ties and reaffirm cooperation on security issues including support for Ukraine.
