King Charles receives standing ovation in US Congress after address
King Charles addressed a joint session of the US Congress on April 28 and earned a prolonged standing ovation after his remarks. He urged lawmakers to defend checks and balances that limit executive power, saying the United States was founded on those principles. He highlighted his lifelong commitment to environmental protection, warning against ignoring the collapse of 'nature's own economy' and urging stronger conservation action. The speech reinforces ties between the United Kingdom and United States and pushes constitutional restraints and climate policy onto Congress's agenda.
standing ovation after King Charles sings the praises of NATO and says "that same unyielding resolve is needed for the defense of Ukraine"
I’m not the world’s biggest King Charles fan. But damn. Calling for unity behind Ukraine, and received a standing ovation in Trump’s Washington. But if you’re going to have a king, this one sounded a hell of a lot more like a moral leader than the man who is cosplaying as one.
He's touched on accepting other religion, climate change, protecting nature, united nations, working with Europe, all the things Trump hates, but Trump probably didnt get any of it.
Well damn came to Trump’s house and slapped him in the face! 🤭🤭🤭
The best was when he stated that in America, executive power is to be checked rather than run rampant (paraphrasing). The King said "No Kings in America"!!! 👏👏👏
Now THAT’S what leadership sounds like. NATO, strong, united, not the weak, confused chaos we’ve seen elsewhere. King Charles gets it—resolve, strength, backing Ukraine, not waffling and whispering to dictators. Very classy, very firm, very winning energy. People respect that.
Did you notice Vance didn’t applaud and didn’t rise. Unbelievable.
How nice was it to listen to a speech by a leader with more than 3rd grade language skills.
Oh cool, we're on team English King now again at year 250. Looks like we might be rejoining the UK at this rate. Hello Oceania @neilperryman.bsky.social
MAGAts are going to throw a tantrum
Notice Vance didn't clap for the Ukraine part.
That’ll piss of Donnie’s buddy.
Truth! #SlavaUkraine Long live a real King.
Look. An intelligent Man. I forgot they exist!
Can’t help but notice - are Vance and Johnson dressed identical?
And that's how an excellent speech should be delivered. Did Trump understand the nuances within I wonder? Let's hope your politicians take note. Vance looked uncomfortable...
You may have 'issues' with the King or royalty in general, however, what you cannot deny is the support of the King for all the democratic rights we enjoy abd the support of those that need our support. Of this, he has never cone up short.
People who can do a speech, without bragging: Charles III, Zelensky, most European leaders, Carney, etc. The one who speaks nonsense: Trump.
Trump definitely too stupid to understand his speech
Charles is an articulate leader calling for unity. Whereas the GOP are always attacking, blaming or playing the victim.
That’s the Democrat side. What was happening on the other side of the room?
America was built in no small part on European heritage: its values and its people. That shared foundation is worth protecting. Choose your allies wisely.
Makes me proud to be British 🇬🇧
Charles was subtly calling out this "administration" on their policies regarding NATO and Ukraine, among other things. 🙏 Respect.
Gotta give KUDOS to Charles on his comments about NATO & UKRAINE‼️👏👏👏
sitting here trying to imagine what Ukrainians make of this moment. the people clapping like seals at the idea of recognizing their courage with tangible support are the SAME people with the power to make that idea real. big disconnect.
Uh oh, King Charles may end up in the dog house with Pope Leo if he keeps this up.
Vance wishing he was on the couch in the White House.
Standing ovation, yay yay yay for Ukraine! And then the R's go hide in their offices and do what TFG tells them.
King Charles using the English language with decency and compassion towards fellow human beings.
And to think, for the past year or so I've attending no kings rallies -- yet this one seems kind reasonable.
I'm willing to consider rejoining the British Empire.
So refreshing to hear a competent leader speak! Haven't had that for quite some time!
Kind of sounds like he’s lecturing Trump. In a very aristocratic way.
Wait …..did we just tumble into a parallel universe !? Republicans giving a standing ovation to things like supporting NATO ….checks and balances ,constitutional limits to presidential power !? The titular head of the world’s oldest democracy giving the US a refresher course ?
Well, if Trump has his way, King Charles and his successor Prince William won't be on the VIP guest list for the Ballroom.
Vance just stood there with a 'puss' on.
If he wants an even bigger response, he should say, "Oh and by the way, Mr. President, my brother misses hanging out with you, you massive cunt."
A speech filled with grace and leadership on many counts.
I am so DELIGHTED King Charles said these things. NUTTO despises NATO We, millions of us, most of us, keenly want to SUPPORT UKRAINE
This is how you cash in your political capital for something worthwhile. I wish more leaders had this spirit.
So all those republicans cheered for Ukraine after leaving them hanging for help?
Not from Reps - if they care about keeping their jobs - bc they’re mostly all Trump’s slaves.
You've got your King, and then you've also got your fake king, both in the same room.
whoa, major plot twist—king charles just went full pickle on us! but like, who knew royal tea could be this spicy? i'm here for the chaos. (re: @atrupar.com)
JD didn’t clap or stand 🤔
“WITH HELL’S HEART I STAB AT THEE”
Will the UK adopt us again?
My god, that's what intelligence sounds like. Unlike the gameshow host, grifter, rapist, pedophile and failed casino owner
Standing ovation by all or Dems only.
Looks like Johnson was supporting Ukraine or maybe he wasn't paying attention and just clapped when everyone else did. Vance, not so much.
Maybe we do need a king.
I see what he did there. Brilliant
Many standing ovations. A class act from King Charles!!!
If the republicans in Congress think that deserves a standing ovation, then they should do something about it besides just standing up. Clapping is feckless. Passing a resolution that strengthens the US resolve and commitment to NATO is actually doing something.
The real king of Britain stood up more for Democracy in America thSt what the wannabe King in the US does.
Had to laugh when all the republicans stood and clapped only to vote against funding Ukraine.
I agree with this analysis. In 'royal' phrasing Charles simply shoves Trump under the carpet. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jq2U...
Your VP Vance is just so impolite
On the pulse. Statesman and leader.
Great job I bet you Trump was pissed
Great. Republicans seemed to be like: ☹️ fine, we'll applaud. But only because we're on TV.
Cheers to him!! Imagine how hard it’s been all day with that clown, just to be handed the mic and school him on diplomacy🤣
Bravo 👏 and good to hear strong democratic leadership from UK. 🇬🇧 Promoting our common values and principles. Thank goodness he spoke up for Ukraine 🇺🇦
Fantastic! I hoped he would say what needs to be said. And he did ... in a most eloquent way
We also like "The King's Speech" made in 2010. We need more speeches by Colin Firth to be honest, ngl.
Rub his nose in it, Charlie!
Frai. dy. Vance refuses to clap for Ukraine
A well-written and well-delivered speech. He made subtle but strong points. When you watch his speech next to Trump's earlier in the day it makes me want to puke.
In other words, there is only one person in the western alliance who wants to slow or stall support for Ukraine and he just happens to be president
Less standing ovations and more balls in standing up to Putin’s bootlicker in the White House.
That alone makes his visit worthwhile.
And the value of checks and balances.
It’s always amazing how the British use the English language as a weapon…
I smell seething from red hat wearing cretins.
Thank you, King Charles. Take that Trump.
I don’t want a king here, but at least this guy pulls it off with a posh accent instead of sounding like a user car salesman.
Why can't we have a King that can speak so eloquently?
Holy Shit! Charles just dumped all over Trump!!
“The U.S. Supreme Court Historical Society has calculated that Magna Carta is cited in at least 160 Supreme Court cases since 1789, not least as the foundation of the principle that executive power is subject to checks and balances." #KingCharles today in his address to Congress.
So Republicans are showing both of their faces today. Copy that.
But, you'll notice no clapping from Vance until after he stood (you can see the shadow)
Except Vance, he did not even clap.
The last time the US public was in a comparable position to the British government, Tony Blair collapsed into sycophancy toward GWB, acquiesced to the Iraq invasion, and gave the shaft to the US public. Charles is doing it differently, at least at that moment, in front of Congress, where it counted.
And Donald will add "as long as it doesn't cost too much money and I get the okay from Putin".
Oh no! He spared Iran out of his Speech about NATO. Tonight trump will post a lot of tweets about what a lowIQ the king is.
Damn, King Charles is a true statesman
NATO = yes! Ukraine = yes! Kings = hard pass.
a short moment, after which republicans went back to parroting Putin
king trump ain’t gonna like that
Well there goes a good relationship with Trump I wouldn't doubt Trump makes an excuse not to visit with King Charles anymore
Quick question: Do you think anyone on the MAGA side of the room knew what the heck King Charles was talking about when he was referencing ’Magna Carta?’
Wish it showed who was Not standing and applauding
I don’t care what other people think, the British monarchy has been a good role model for moral and ethical conduct.
The Least Liked King is speaking to the Least Liked King
Grump in the back losing his shit 🤣
You just have to know that this is going to have Trump is seething and planning to give the Falklands and its surrounding oil fields to Argentina.....
I was pissing on him for even coming but good on him to speak some truth.
Bold, I'd say, and rightly so. Pushing it more than QE2 might have done.
Draft dodging Donny won’t be too happy about that. Putin will be on the phone first thing in the morning to ask him wtf he is doing letting that guy talk to congress.
on the edge of the blade, well done
Just so the non-British know, the King's speeches are always written by the UK Government.
King Charles is the head of state for Canada. Isn’t the fact that he does not explicitly and publicly address Donald Trump‘s attack on Canada’s sovereignty a disgraceful abdication of his responsibility?
I'm amazed that that comment didn't cause all the sycophants to pass out when they heard that. 😏
Nice to hear a coherent leader who can speak full sentences and understand their history and use their history to guide them.
the R mofos didn't even hear what he said, they are clapping like trained seals
Democrats give a big standing ovation and start hooting and hollering when King Charles III says "executive power is subject to checks and balances." Republicans join in the standing ovation but remain quiet.
Well you can’t expect to wield supreme executive power just cause some watery tart threw a sword at you.
Weird when a king tells an elected official essentially, "bro, dial it back."
pretty sure he said cheques
He's had the chance to learn from an earlier Charles who insisted on unchecked Executive power: "Articles of Impeachment of King Charles I" en.wikisource.org/wiki/Article... bsky.app/profile/meeh...
It’s fun how they think applauding the sentiment will absolve their utter failure to stand up for it.
I think the some of the speech went over the heads of a lot of MAGA including some sitting in the seats.
Tfw you create your own Church just so you can get a divorce.
Charleslll hit all of Trump’s bad behaviours as he was speaking for the UK government who are fed up with Trump, just like Australia and Canada
Headlines from the Future, Today! This from 2027.... "Trump launches $10 billion lawsuit against UK for burning down White House in 1814" Seriously, how does this not happen?
OK, ok - that’s funny. King Charles educating Trump on what class looks like. 👌
And assuming he was even awake (which is a pretty big assumption), the joke and historical relevance no doubt went completely over Trump’s head.
Would be easier to find this funny if Charles had met with any of the Epstein survivors bsky.app/profile/lisa...
Well, he knows a monstrous carbuncle when he sees one.
That flew over the cuckoo's hair nest !
Is the gift of a bell some subtle British trolling too?
I was once, fondly, called a smiling assassin, context of which is too lengthy to describe. The King certainly has me beaten. He absolutely nails saying difficult things with enough humour to make them impossible to argue with.
King Charles, citing the 1215 Magna Carta as the foundation for the principle that "executive power is subject to checks & balances." "...Governing is done through deliberation rather than the "will of one" The entire Congress gave him a standing ovation.👏👏👏
Interesting that the Republicans managed not to burst into flames while clapping.
Seriously? Republicans felt something? 🥹
Thank you so much King Charles. Hopefully King DonOLD learned something from you.
yet they do not understand that they have been grossly insulted (and rightly so)
Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard would like a word. And Mary Queen of Scots.
