Supreme Court limits Voting Rights Act in 6-3 ruling
The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, narrowed how federal courts may enforce a key provision of the Voting Rights Act by raising the legal standard plaintiffs must meet to challenge voting rules. The conservative majority said courts should require stronger evidence before ordering remedies for contested voting practices, and the three liberal justices dissented. Voting rights groups say the ruling will make it harder to block discriminatory maps and restrictions that disproportionately affect minority voters. The decision shifts more power to state election officials and increases pressure on Congress to pass legislation restoring federal protections.
Racism is over says the Supreme Court, which you can tell because it took literally a matter of minutes after they gutted the Voting Rights Act for Republicans in the South to start moving to make sure Black people in their states get no representation in Congress
The party of Lincoln is dead
Right. Everything's fine, John Roberts, you long-game sneaky fuck. We should have known all along
Black Voters saved our asses in 2020 so you just pissed them off blacks for Trump you get it now?
All part of the plan.
The #SCOTUS 6 belong in #Guantanamo
Been sitting with how many Black Civil rights leaders bled and died to ge the voting rights act only for it to be struck down by this white supremacist supreme court. This is from bloody Sunday which catalyzed passage of the VRA. It's hard not to shed tears at what we've lost.
John Roberts, come on down. The KKK has an award they want to present you.
The work of the bravest undone by the most despicable cowards..
This is a tragedy spear headed by John Roberts and Project 2025
That is THEE John Lewis in the foreground of this iconic photo. Democrats passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Act in the House several times, attempting to recodify key portions of the 1965 VRA, but Rcons know what side their bread is buttered on, and managed to kill it in the Senate every time.
The white supremacists will shed oceans of blood and murder hundreds of millions for the sake of perpetating their racial hierarchy We need to be just as if not more relentless if we are to build anything but their vile designs
The events of Bloody Sunday on March 7, 1965—where John Lewis and roughly 600 civil rights activists were brutally attacked by police on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama—directly catalyzed the swift passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. That law, considered the most effective
We need to expand the court to 13 justices and then pack it with leftists after impeaching Alito and prosecuting Thomas & Roberts.
This is a sad day for our country, and for those that died or were hurtvin Selma, so all had the right to vote!
Mere hours after the U.S. Supreme Court gutted the VRA, Republicans across the nation — but particularly in the South — called on GOP legislatures to redraw congressional maps ahead of November’s midterm elections. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
Big day for the Confederacy.
They are scared and I don't think even ultra gerrymandering will save them in November. People are pissed and fed up with their BS.
This ruling by the Extreme Court is a coup d'etat.
Fine. Redraw all the lines in all blue states, too, then. If we're gonna have Civil War 2, then let's have it.
Then we MUST be even MORE PROACTIVE and forceful, hit the streets a talk to everyone you see, ask questions, their opinions, and encourage them to vote blue in order to fix what this regime has broken! And give us BACK the normality WITHOUT the insanity! AND keep harassing your legislators!!
Vote in every election! Check your voter registration! VOTE BLUE!!!!!! VOTE EARLY! And take your ballot to a drop box! We can't trust the US postal service getting our ballots there on time. We got this people. NO ONE GETS TO SIT THIS ONE OUT!!
Democrats need to do the exact same thing!!
This is so gutting, I’m so disappointed.
This will create a civil war.
They knew and were ready. Blackburn called for TN legislators to reconvene just to redraw Memphis. Getting rid of Nashville’s representative was never enough.
The worst SCOTUS (conservative wing) is apparently still fighting the Civil War and is happy to see black peoples votes stolen!
Time for blue states to eliminate any and all Republican districts.
Do we really need a Supreme Court? They don’t work for the American people. Why make them rich?
Someone please take him and the rest of them out
Redraw? Submit plans drafted prior to the decision.
Well then Blue States need to step up! Tit for tat
Let them have their fun; because if that's all they need to keep putting Republicans in power despite their countless misdeeds, then honestly, America might be in bigger trouble than we think.
That pendulum swings both ways. Let’s not waste a moment and do our part.
A black girl born today will have fewer reproductive and voting rights than her grandmother.
Astonishing, and shameful. Yet here we are. 🤕❤️🩹🇺🇸
Which is extremely sad! Kills me! None of us is different. None!
This cycle of craziness has to end. It’s mind boggling the amount of good work has been undone by fearful, hateful fools.
I hate the US Extreme Court, the US Supreme Cult. All six of those "conservative" zealots and fkn crusaders were at the Whiteist House for dinner last night. But really, I shouldn't even blame them, because we know who & what they are. People who won't vote for democrats are who I'm most furious at.
Decades of hard work destroyed by corrupt SCOTUS. Dems need to declare war.
It sends me into an incandescent rage 😡😡😡
Amazing...... They've actully achieved what they joke about in third world countries
This description by @AdamSerwer of the logic of the Alito ruling completing the demolition the Voting Rights is devastating—and right “Trying to disenfranchise Black voters isn’t racist; preventing Louisiana from disenfranchising Black voters is racist.” www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
If race and politics are intertwined, then targeting voters “politically” is just a way to target them racially without saying it.
What an incredibly sad read. Leaves one feeling utterly empty. Congress is already dominated by mostly white legislators and it’s about to get worse. The cycle of racial disenfranchisement begins anew and history tells us where this ends. Dems have to make it their mission to change the court
All six went a long went along with his solipsism. By the way, what were they all doing at Trump’s state dinner last night? All six were there alongside the billionaires.
What did you expect from Alito, judicial restraint and sound logic? The moment I heard he authored the opinion, I knew it would be $&@&.
The same people wanting to remove voting rights from POC want to remove voting rights from women Anyone denying is lying
Anyone who isn’t white, male and a billionaire is in danger. It just depends on what way the stench is blowing out of DC!
Has anyone ever told Clarence Thomas he's actually black?
The end goal is Head of household voting by white property holders. When republicans talk about “taxpayers” that’s who they mean
My Threads feed is full of Black folks absolutely gutted and despairing over today’s Voting Rights Act ruling. I love Bluesky for so much, but today is one of those historical moments where it is stark that we really live in two different Americas.
This ruling is a travesty.
What is being done to people of color now is a warning. It is the beginning of what they want to happen to everyone they don't like.
I am gutted like I've never been before in my life.
Literally, the Republicans put into a place anti-black voting laws that the civil rights act had to address decades ago.
It's tough seeing the emotional weight of that ruling impacting so many, especially when platforms highlight those disparities. 💔
We're about halfway through the American version of 'And then they came for...' poem. People need to start fucking caring about the rights and protections of EVERYONE.
I hate that this is proving to still be true in such an emphatic way. It’s backwards racist white folks who are making this so. Which means even louder, stronger, more relentless, better organized white folks need to cancel out these a*holes and do the work to lift our fair share towards equal.
I'm so sorry, I can't pretend to understand how it must feel to be treated like this. I will not vote for anyone who isn't willing to fix this corrupt racist court
I am seeing a lot of it on bluesky as well.
"These people play fast and loose with our dead...they think they OWN freedom." @esglaude.bsky.social reacts to the Supreme Court's gutting of the Voting Rights Act. @nicollewallace.bsky.social
@esglaude.bsky.social had me in tears today. I am so heartbroken. This SCOTUS de is a disgrace.
Mr Glaude gutted me with the clarity & bright light he shone on the supreme court’s demolishing of a landmark voting rights law. After President Obama’s 2 terms, a large minority backlashed w/vehement racism. We must now find a way forward to a stronger democracy for ALL.
Dr. G. had me in tears. He frames points in ways which make me reflect and apply.
I love him. He’s so good with explanations. He is genuine, truthful and compassionate.
