Sir David Attenborough will turn 100 on May 8, 2026, and a mass online birthday‑card campaign has launched inviting people worldwide to sign and send messages. Sheffield DocFest announced a 2026 program tribute and an immersive Attenborough exhibition will open as a free London show to mark the centenary. Attenborough has been recounting dramatic career moments, saying he 'came close to losing everything' while filming mountain gorillas for Life on Earth in Rwanda and that he remains appalled by having shot an animal 70 years ago. The centenary concentrates public and cultural attention on Attenborough's conservation legacy and gives the public organized ways to celebrate and support wildlife protection efforts.
