David Allan Coe dies at 86
David Allan Coe, the outlaw country singer-songwriter behind 'Take This Job and Shove It,' 'You Never Even Called Me By My Name,' and 'The Ride,' has died at 86. Coe wrote the blue-collar anthem 'Take This Job and Shove It,' launched a recording career after a stint in prison, and became a fixture of the 1970s and 1980s outlaw country movement. He also released profanity-laced and racially offensive recordings that long shadowed his legacy while he continued to tour and self released albums. His death closes the chapter on a polarizing artist whose songs influenced mainstream country hits and a devoted subculture.

I didn’t realize he wrote that. Dude was racist as hell
Well, I've heard my name A few times in your phone book (hello, hello) And I've seen it on signs where I've played But the only time I know I'll hear "David Allan Coe" Is when Jesus has his final judgment day
I'll never forget learning about his "alternate" music. The shock of the extreme racism was stomach churning.
complete racist asshole. good riddance
I was like, "I know that 'shove the job' tune let me look up his other stuff to see... what? What??? WHAT!?!?!." If there were ever a death to be celebrated over the life of the person what croaked, this guy might fit those shoes length and width. Rest In Piss, shit bag.
I think of him like Wagner. A real sack of shit that made some good music.
He is/was MAGA and held their values (racist, homo/transphobic, xenophobic, etc) so no real loss imo.
I like his music but he wrote a song called "N**ger Lover" and somehow Shel Silverstein was involved in that LP and Coe said he regretted it? There is a fascinating story the AP chose not to tell.
