May Day mobilizations, local marches and general strike actions on May 1
Dozens of local marches, rallies and virtual meetups are scheduled for May 1, including 21 organized events across Wisconsin and a 'May Day Strong' Workers Over Billionaires mobilization in Roanoke, Virginia. Organizers nationwide are calling for a general strike, saying "no work, no school, no shopping", and pairing street protests with coordinated virtual gatherings and workplace actions. Events range from community marches and labor speeches to targeted economic withdrawal aimed at pressuring employers and lawmakers on wage inequality and corporate power, making May 1 a test of national labor organizing capacity.
You've probably heard a lot about general strikes. But how exactly do they work? And is America on the verge of one? Labor journalist @kimkelly.bsky.social explains.
A prolonged general strike is the only thing that will address this mess
Exactly what we need! A mass general strike but longer than just one day! We the people need to fight for better wages, unions, term limits, age limits for congress, impeach and imprisonment for this regime and enablers, and the full release of Epstein files!
She is correct in that it must be a sustained movement and not limited to planned protest.
We don't have the infrastructure to support enough people for one. When someone is going to get together and work on that, I have ideas that can work too but just talking about a strike is literally a death sentence for many many families and falls fully flat without ACTUALIZED mutual aid.
It would have to be a week or two, one day isn’t anything
