FIFA Congress opens in Vancouver amid row over barred officials
Canada denied entry to certain Iranian and Palestinian football association officials ahead of the 76th FIFA Congress in Vancouver, with Iran's delegation led by president Mehdi Taj turning back at Toronto airport. Iranian state media and federation officials said the delegation left after what they called "unacceptable behaviour of immigration officials," and Palestinian FA representatives had been impeded from attending earlier. The absences removed Iranian and Palestinian voices from key sessions, complicating FIFA's governance weeks before the World Cup and highlighting tensions between travel policy and representation at global football meetings.
Canada has just banned Iranian football officials from attending FIFA Congress in Vancouver after previously impeding the entry of the Palestinian FA. We argue for @breachmedia.ca that this is just the latest evidence of Canada's absurdly-Zionist immigration double-standards.
Only the extravagant spectacle of the upcoming FIFA World Cup could make major news out of the otherwise banal acts of bureaucratic violence routinely inflicted upon Palestinians by Canada. Paperwork brutality is business as usual for the Canadian state. breachmedia.ca/canadas-fifa...
We should be banning Israel and USA or better yet FIFA
Fuck FIFA and fuck @mark-carney.bsky.social government
Disgraceful actions from our government.
They show us their duplicity without fear of accountability
Good morning from the FIFA Congress, where FIFA VP Victor Montagliani told me and @henrybushnell.bsky.social where the onus lies to keep the Whitecaps in Vancouver: “What I’m hoping now, with this alarm bell that’s gone off, is that our politicians wake up to it.” @theathleticfc.bsky.social
Atlanta United fan here, if the MLS doesn’t keep a team in Vancouver they have sold their soul. The Miami and Messi payout told us they were close but if this happens I’m turning my energy into the USL and hoping they take over North America soccer.
The fact that a FIFA official is blaming the provincial government says to me that the problem is with the Caps ownership and/or MLS.
