Gas prices climb as Iran conflict and oil markets push costs higher
Gas prices climbed nationwide as the Iran conflict tightened oil markets, pushing California station prices near $6 per gallon and raising Texas's average from $2.55 in February to $3.72 by late April. AAA reported U.S. averages on April 30 at $4.30 for regular, $5.16 for premium, and $5.50 for diesel, increases of $1.32, $1.30, and $1.74 respectively since the Iran war began on February 28. In Canada, Toronto pump prices jumped about four cents overnight and a federal 10¢ per liter tax cut on April 20 only briefly lowered prices before levels climbed back toward pre-cut values. Higher pump and diesel costs increase commuting and shipping expenses, feeding higher consumer prices and adding inflationary pressure on household budgets and businesses.
Average U.S. gas prices per gallon on April 30, per AAA: • Regular: $4.30 (⬆️ $1.32 since war in Iran began on Feb. 28) • Premium: $5.16 (⬆️ $1.30 since war began) • Diesel: $5.50 (⬆️ $1.74 since war began)
Remember, unlike Joe Biden, Trump actually DID DO THIS!!!!
That’s funny! Right now it’s $4.799 in NE Indiana. Up from $3.54 Tuesday morning. But it’s not trumps fault all the republicans say. Hey maga 🖕!
Random prediction; Self-exiled UAE pumps beyond OPEC monopoly standards, crashes crude price to $70/barrel, Trump takes credit.
US is one of biggest oil producers… Malta have to buy oil… but somehow, price of gas barely changed for me on Malta… while my friends and family in US being robbed every time they need to refill. Fuck Trump is given, but Fuck US Oil conglomerates should not be forgotten too.
I’m paying almost $20 more each fill-up. Which is weekly. So, ya know, just a casual $80 a month going to Jack fucking shit. Can’t wait for this entire pedophile golden shower ballroom regime to rot and clot in prison. TAKE THEM DOWN!! #86TheRegime
Don't forget the extra they charge you to use a credit card for gas. In a couple of gas stations in Florida, they charged me an additional $1.50 a gallon to pay by credit card. ☹️
A thoughtful nation would make it a Manhattan Project-styled priority to get out from under the thumb of Big Oil but we know what's going on.
Nothing says winning like being broke because of rising gas, food, and housing costs.
In the MAGA Land of Make Believe, high prices are joe biden's fault. And Hillary's fault. And blame the left press corps. Also, these aren't high prices! Its also Obama's fault.
LOL, come hang out in Seattle for a week or two!
Ohio prices rose over a dollar more in two days
2 leaders in the GOP came on TV and lied about gas prices. That’s what they think of us.
Where I live in California: California average gas prices Current Avg. $6.010, $6.239, $6.428, $7.483.
Over $5 here in the semi-rural Chicago suburbs. Up .50 just yesterday.
At some point folks will have to make choices - drive to work, buy groceries, pay rent or buy gas.
Great work by one orange idiot who's bringing the entire world to its knees
I wish it was similar to a National Average here
Cries in filling up in the UK..
It’s only going to get worse with our stable genius and his alcoholic buddy in charge.
In CA? $6.00 and ABOVE! 😭 So much winning!! I guess America is Great Again? 🙄
You really should start including the price of home heating oil, too.
And UK/EU equivalent prices... Around double those US fuel is too cheap anyway... get smaller more efficient cars
Stupid wars America pays the price Time for renewables and more green initiatives
Where I live (The Bronx), I've seen $5/gallon for regular gas.
4.79-4.99 in grand rapids mi
But, Steve Scalise swears gas was higher 2.5 years ago! And MAGA believes him.
$4.90 for regular in Phoenix
In Mich… had gone $1.00 in 3 days: Monday $3.99 Wed. $4.50 Today Thursday ($4.99) The avg by AAA can’t keep up.
This is costing us half a billion dollars a day in increased fuel costs alone. I reckon if we offered Iran half a billion dollars a day to never make a nuclear weapon they would sign that deal so fast the pen would catch fire.
61 days into Donald Trump's war with Iran, the national average for a gallon of gas is now $4.30 — up 44.3%. That's ON TOP of higher prices for groceries, shipping, flights, and more. And the response from the Trump Administration and GOP Congress? Crickets.
This is our gas price and you know it.
Worse than crickets. Bare-faced lies and gaslighting.
No, not crickets. They're asking for us to build him a ballroom so he can have parties.
It’s $4.80 went up 30 cents since this morning!!!! I’m in central Illinois…..
Oh there is a response. They are telling their base the price of gas is actually lower than two years ago. And the chucklefucks believe them. We are truly in the upside down.
Much higher in CA of course. Both gas and groceries.
CALL FOR THE ARREST OF JONATHAN ROSS FOR THE MURDER OF RENEE GOOD!
Not crickets. Ballrooms. Ballrooms as far as the eye can see.
Hey Gavin, the price of gas in NorCal, where I live, is $6.63, much higher than the "average" because we pay the highest price for gas in the nation. But you know that. What happened to the bill you signed into law, to help us against gas price spikes? I know, it's sitting idle, not helping us.
My Rep Tom Barrett is blaming Joe Biden for these high prices.
President Trump's Iran war is causing gas prices to hit record highs. But don't worry, he is laser-focused on the issues that matter most to him: Firing comedians over jokes at his expense, prosecuting enemies over bullshit, and building a 250-foot arch and ballroom. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
Curious: 1. Trump is watching too many old gangster movies. Where he gets his info? 2. Or, he’s awfully familiar with mafia slang. 🤔 3. Most ordinary people see “86” as restaurant lingo.
America? Your leader is a whiny little handed b!tch. You know, in case you missed that? 🤷
He makes King George III (Mad King George) look sane and stable.
Gas prices are surging because of this new war in Iran. I’m calling for a suspension of the federal gas tax — which would immediately drop the price of gas by 18 cents a gallon. Suspend the gas tax. End the war in Iran. Make life more affordable.
Federal fuel taxes help pay for roads and highways — so we’ll need to cover the gap. We’ll use my plan to close billionaire tax loopholes, which would generate enough revenue to make it up… plus a lot more. www.statesman.com/news/politic...
james stop the fucking slopulism please it's so goddamn embarrassing. all this does is give republicans an out for their war by blunting its effect on us. we have to stop the war, not just the effect of the war on americans.
Dude, code switch. You don't have to tell Blue Sky users about this directly.
This is idiotic. Why would you want to reduce the consequences of electing Republicans?
How about clawing back oil industry profits and distributing back to taxpayers
If this goes through, Republicans will attribute it to Trump. Yes, gas prices are surging but perhaps it is a lesson for voters
If we have more American oil than we need and we even export it WHY IS TRUMP ALLOWING THE AMERICAN GAS COMPANIES TO PRICE GOUGE US
hmmmmmmm. BAD* Idea, Senator! let us, Instead, go with a WINDFALL PROFITS TAX *tho it just Might get you Elected down in Texas** **tho you Could 'pull a Republican' (a Trick!) & Swap, once Elected that, I Could Get behind. Good Luck!
Terrible policy and terrible politics
If voters really want tax cuts they'll just vote GOP. Stop competing on their terms
Pete Hegseth: "We control the Strait." Sen. Tim Scott: "Gas prices continue to come down." The defining characteristic of Republican politicians is their enthusiastic lying.
Tim Scott may be one of the dumbest people ever to be in the senate. Not even a good liar.
Republican pols lie to their voters almost as much as Republican voters lie to themselves
MAGA conservatism is the ideology of the "Noble Lie" The proponents of the "Noble Lie" are going to be liars and tell many lies to support the primary lie.
“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” ― George Orwell, 1984
Did Canada’s 10¢/L cut to gas tax really lower gas prices? Earlier in April, gas averaged 69¢/L more in 🇨🇦 than 🇺🇸. After the cut (April 20th), prices immediately dropped about 10¢ relative to 🇺🇸! But then started trending back up again. Prices today are only 3¢ lower than before the cut.
Normally: adding a tax makes things more expensive, taking it away makes things cheaper. But how much of the increase/savings gets passed on to the consumer depends on the market/circumstances. A physical shortage of oil is a context where tax cuts are *less likely* to get passed on to consumers.

I think it was Trevor Tombe who did this same analysis when AB dropped the gas tax for a while. It was easier to model AB from the rest of Canada. It only took a few months before all of the 13¢/L was recaptured by oil companies. I’d expect the same now
Canada switches to a summer blend of gasoline which is more expensive than winter blend. We do this in April. Did you take into consideration that much of the US did not switch to a costlier blend in April? I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but it's a data point that needs to be considered.
