East Coast Kin photography tag spotlights spring blooms, coastlines and birds

cultureMay 1, 2026571,744

Photographers using the East Coast Kin tag are spotlighting spring coastal landscapes, bird shots, and florals such as tulips. Contributors post images from places ranging from northern Santa Barbara County to northeastern Ohio, with some images cross-tagged West Coast Kin. Examples include a rain-soaked tulip in NE Ohio, rolling cloudscapes over Santa Barbara hills, and handmade wands left at a Little Free Art Box for Beltane. The tag functions as a searchable showcase of seasonal nature, local coastlines, and small community art projects worth exploring.

Photo by Kort Duce A blue jay slices through the air at a nature area in Longmont, Colorado. In this vertical color photograph, the bird is captured mid-flight with its wings tucked tightly against its body, giving the impression of a dramatic dive. In reality, it is moving in undulating flight—a distinctive, wave-like pattern created by alternating bursts of flapping and brief glides. The blue jay fills the frame in right profile, its streamlined form emphasizing speed and motion. Behind it, a brilliant blue sky—so characteristic of Colorado’s more than 300 days of sunshine each year—provides a clean, vivid backdrop that makes the bird’s striking colors stand out.

Marco photo of a peach colored bearded Iris flower. Its lavender petaloid rest on the drooping petals while the crown petals shape a safe place for pollinators to enter and work. The petals are so delicate they are almost transparent. May First. Happy Beltane. To some cultures it is the most important day of the year. Symbolizing the first day of Spring and the beginning of the year for others. "Beltane tonight so boys and girls be glad, leap, sing and dance about the flames of youth and happiness. All life rejoice in earth’s fecundity."~Pete Crowther

A photo of a narrow footpath upward through lush green undergrowth and into stands of tall sunlit conifer trees with blue sky showing through. The path ascends through bright green forest floor growth from the bottom center of the image to the middle of the image. The path is dark brown contrasting strongly with the green plants. The path crests at a slope that starts high on the left and drops to the right. The slope is accented by strong sunlight that lens a gold hue to the green plants there. The light comes from the far left. Beyond the edge of the slope conifer tree trunks rise with many upward tilted branches. Through the tree trunks and branches, ample views of blue sky shows.

A wide, sandy beach at low tide with people walking and a runner in the foreground. In the background, the historic walled city of Saint-Malo, France, with its stone ramparts, castle, and traditional buildings, is visible under a partly cloudy sky. Did you know? Saint-Malo is the only city in France allowed to fly its municipal flag higher than the French flag due to its unique historical status. From 1590 to 1594, Saint-Malo declared itself an independent republic, functioning as a de facto city-state. When it rejoined France, a treaty was negotiated that granted the city the special privilege of flying its own flag above the French flag as a symbol of its autonomy and pride. This exception reflects the city’s long-standing motto: “Ni Français, ni Breton, Malouin suis” (“Not French, not Breton, but from Saint-Malo”).

A dark river flows at the base of the hill in the foreground, bordered by bright green bushes and grass. The sun shines brightly from behind scattered fluffy white clouds in a blue sky, creating a slight lens flare and backlighting the castle silhouette.
