Urgent update: The United States just dropped to its lowest ranking ever in the press freedom index—64th out of 180 countries. This weekend we are celebrating World Press Freedom day and the alarm bells are ringing. Journalists are being silenced. Press is under attack. It is a five alarm fire.

Today is “World Press Freedom Day”. Israel killed well over 200 journalists in Gaza during an ongoing genocide; I spoke to some of them before they were killed, like Hossam Shabat. International journalists are still not let in–and we talk about “press freedom”? What an absolute farce.

On this World Press Freedom Day, join us in demanding that Congress take action and protect our free press now.

On World Press Freedom Day, let's remember that Israel is the most prolific killer of journalists in our time. According to @pressfreedom.bsky.social, at least 129 journalists and media workers were killed in 2025 — two-thirds of them by Israel.
