The Hall of Fame remembers John Sterling, who passed away Monday at the age of 87. The longtime voice of the Yankees called 5,426 regular season games and 225 postseason games, including five World Series titles, while providing the soundtrack to Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera's greatest moments.

John Sterling was too long in the booth, and I never cared for his style. But I always felt somewhat guilty criticizing him, because his joy in it came through. He loved his kids, baseball, and old movies. He was never far from any of them, even at the end. I am thinking of his friend Waldman.

John Sterling became one of my favorite NBA play by play announcers during the TBS Atlanta Hawks broadcasts. When Nique would make a wild shot or dunk Sterling sometimes said “Dominique…Manifique”. RIP 🙏🏽

Rest in peace, John Sterling. You don't meet too many people who are wholly original, and John sure was that. He was always gracious to me when I covered the Yankees, and it was fun to see how John, Joe Castiglione, and Suzyn Waldman were such close friends. He loved coming to Fenway Park, too.

RIP to the great John Sterling. What a legend. The Yankees won 2,763 regular-season games between Opening Day 1989 and 7/3/2019 John told us "Theeeeee Yankees win" after all 2,763 of them.

John Sterling, was a shining example of how being yourself was the best way to create a bond with his audience. No one ever did it like him, no one else ever will. And I think that rules.

This one hurts. RIP to a legend. As a 90s kid in New York, John IS the Yankees to me as much as Ruth and Mantle and the rest of the guys in the history books. And once I joined YES, he always a friendly guy around the booth. Tough day, but it’ll be nice to celebrate John Sterling on a game day.
