Met Gala 2026 opens, theme 'Costume Art'; Beyoncé returns to the carpet
The 2026 Met Gala opened in New York under the Costume Art theme, drawing A-list attendees including Beyoncé, BLACKPINK, Anne Hathaway, Naomi Osaka, and Emma Chamberlain. Beyoncé returned to the Met for the first time in a decade and stunned on the red carpet, while other guests delivered high-concept, art-inflected costumes that leaned into theatricality. Mark Zuckerberg attended his first Met Gala in a tux, joining tech and entertainment figures at the museum's marquee fundraising night for the Costume Institute. The event's extravagant, museum-minded ensembles set the tone for runway and celebrity fashion conversations in the year ahead.
My extremely not-requested opinion on the Met Gala's non-theme theme is that we can't have interesting fashion under fascism because anything genuinely inspirational the organizers chose would be challenged as "DEI" or "trans" content. So we get blandy bland bland bland.
Tony wants me to make him a lemon dress
There were moments - But for the most part, yeah. *sigh*
So, the arts community doesn't get to be artists? Or, is it all about making the people with money happy.
But why? Why do fascists always have bad taste? Can somebody anybody tell me why?
