On May 5 Red Dress Day, communities across Canada honored Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people. The Chiefs of Ontario in Toronto marked the day and warned the federal government allowed critical MMIWG2S+ funding to lapse with no notice or confirmation of renewal. Local memorials included a 10 AM gathering at Kew Beach organized by 2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations, offering ceremonies and community supports. Advocates warn the funding gap threatens survivor services, family searches, prevention programs, and long-term reconciliation work.
