Tom Steyer presses to abolish ICE during California debate
At the California gubernatorial debate Tom Steyer repeatedly called for abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying 'ICE is a criminal operation' and urging criminal accountability that reaches Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller. He also demanded expanded health care access for undocumented immigrants, saying 'Immigrants built this state' and accusing rivals Xavier Becerra and Katie Porter of victimizing those communities by depriving care. Those stances sharpen the policy contrast in the Democratic governor's race and could reshape how candidates court Latino and immigrant voters this fall.
Tom Steyer says ICE is a criminal operation, and it should be abolished, and criminal accountability should go all the way up to Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller.
He’s not wrong about ICE, but we don’t want another billionaire politician.
He will NOT get my vote I don’t believe him, and he’s not leading Becarra all the way!! CA STRONG !!
Why does a billionaire need political power to use his billions for good 🤷🏾♂️
That’s not going to get him my vote.
Not voting for a billionaire. Hell no.
CA Governor is not a training job with the 4th largest economy in the world. Vote for experience. Words are hollow.
It isn’t in anybody’s best interest to vote in a billionaire, but Becarra is the best option! Billionaires will always vote in favor of what’s best for billionaires! We need leaders that will vote for what’s the best for everyone in America
That's nice, but I won't vote in the primary for a billionaire, and Tom Steyer is an especially bothersome one, running so many ads, not only now, but in 2020 for POTUS, so he's not picky, just wants to be elected.
Tom Steyer needs to endorse Xavier Becerra... ... or along with Katie Porter be responsible for two Republicans being on the ballot in November.
. Yeah, well, FORKED-TONGUE BILLIONAIRE Tom Steyer’s former hedge fund, Farallon Capital Management, invested nearly $90 MILLION in the Corrections Corporation of America (now CoreCivic), the nation's largest private prison COMPANY. Anyone investing in PRIVATE PRISONS WON'T GET MY VOTE.
And where was Steyer during the MN seige? Was he out front and center doing all he could as a private citizen with his billions to draw attention to the abuses by ICE? No. He was most likely warm, comfortable, and in his mansion.
For those that are stuck between Steyert and Becerra, it looks like Becerra is ahead in polls. PLY don’t waste UR votes and give it to Becerra. Honestly we’d be lucky to have either but right now we just have to prevent the apocalypse by allowing MAGA to win, in this fractured election.
I agree with this 100%, but I’m totally against people trying to buy their way into public office without having had experience in politics.
As he profits off people in prison, including ice facilities
Tom Steyer is not the one
Tom Steyer is also a billionaire who doesn't pay his taxes. 🫤
I'm never voting for a billionaire investor. Governing is not like running a business. IMHO it's empty promises trying to hit all the right check boxes for us liberals.
Steyer says the right things. But he’s a billionaire & he’s got no previous government experience. Even a chance of him being a wolf in sheep’s clothing is too big a risk. & seeing the way he embraced Bianco after the last debate, probably tells you all you need to know. Becerra has the experience.
But not trump? Why would Steyer assign responsibility only to Noem and Miller? Criminal accountability should go all the way up to and including trump. He hired these tyrants. The buck stops with the fascist maniac.
Wish I could trust him. He's been trying to get elected to a top office for several years. A billionaire who's already spent over $150 million on tv ads in the Ca. Governor's race, starting months before others were advertising. My vote goes to Katie Porter.
The fact he's a billionaire is a red flag for me, but he may be an actual good person, one of the rare billionaires who is. I wish he'd buy Fox News or something.
What scares me is he says shit that makes sense. ...and I can't tell if he means it or not.
Last thing we need is another billionaire, don’t care what he “says” either. www.fresnobee.com/news/politic...
Are people really going to vote for a billionaire? I wouldn't trust him.
Tom Steyer embraces racist POS Bianco. Tom Steyer is not getting my vote.
This whole regime is tyrannical \ non representative. Founders said to start over.📚
That’s what he SAYS. Trump lied a lot during his campaign too. Look at what he’s done. Private prison investor.
Becerra has my vote. California doesn’t need a billionaire.
He’s gotten a lot of progressive endorsements but is currently 9 points behind Xavier. It’s a close race, so I really wish a couple of these Democrats who can’t win would drop out and endorse Becerra.
Everyone knows that. I don’t trust Steyer.
I'm still voting for Becerra, I have zero desire to have a billionaire as governor.
While that’s true, another multibillionaire in government is an off putting idea to me.
Billionaires say a lot of things, and I don’t trust any of them. Californians can see past performative mediocrity, Swalwell was always gross, and honestly name one decent billionaire! #Becerra or bust!!!!
I don’t trust him at all
Steyer talks the talk, but no more tax evading billionaires. California can do better.
Steyer had a $90 million stake in CoreCivic, a private prison firm operating ICE detention centers.
Sounds good. I want to know if he's going to go after them if he gets elected. Talk is cheap.
Interesting since Tom Steyer invested in private prisons and private detention centers. What a fvking hypocrite!
Stop trying to divide the Democrat vote. Ugh
I agree with Tom Steyer. That's why people should vote for Becerra.
Good statement, still a billionaire.🤮
He can’t abolish ICE so that just feels like pandering to me. I like him less every time I hear him say it. Fake. I’m voting for Becerra.
That’s great but enough with the billionaires
Not far enough up, Tom
I agree but I still don’t want to vote for Steyer. I’m hoping he’s not my only choice.
Steyer is the best democrat in this race. Becerra is bought and paid for by big oil
Yet he is still a billionaire who has been trying to buy his way into California politics for far too long. I can’t believe people are falling for his crap. We’ve already seen what happens when an inexperienced right wing billionaire gets in high office.
We Do need immigration enforcement, but ICE is too far gone. The next President (Democrat pleez) needs to create an all new agency
. Katie Porter & her famous whiteboard is the CA GOVERNOR CANDIDATE for me! She MAKES CLEAR what's ACTUALLY HAPPENING with AMERICANS' PATHETIC PAYCHECKS & WHERE THEY GO along with ANY OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUE that NEEDS CLARIFICATION. She's brilliant! katieporter.com/about/
I don’t trust that guy.
It’s not exactly up in the air. It’s more accurate to call ICE a terrorist operation. Every single one of those motherfuckers has to pay. Forever.
Tom Steyer is a good man.
Yes but I still don’t want another billionaire who bought his popularity
That's nice. And nothing wrong with that. But it's a bit late for a guy whose fund gave Core Civic a 90 million investment. Sure, 10 yrs ago. But then it was and still is running the notorious Dilley TX family detention facility, one of the worst of the worst. Steyer is disqualified as a result.
So, he says the truth.
way too mny ppl screaming they’ll never vote for a billionaire (he’s in fact a long-time VERY progressive political activist who’s also a billionaire) telling you thr plan is to vote 4 a centrist Dem backed by PG&E & Chevron…just sayin’. If the shoe fits, wear it, maybe it’ll get real uncomfortable?
So, Steyer has no Plan, just talking points?
Trust is EARNED Not GIVEN.
Well, we have the tapes, Tom Steyer is absolutely right. It's a terrorist organization run by the current administration. ICE's reputation has never respectable but ICE under trump is completely debased. We need accountability, here.
He is right about that. 🤔Still trying to decide whether I trust him or not...
He’s also a white male billionaire. Haven’t seen one act altruistic yet.
Tom Steyer is one of the elites, and he's making the promises we want to hear. All the things he will "work on". sounds familiar right. I don't hear how he will address the most problematic issues in our state, like being pushed out of our homes by super high taxes and higher costs of living.
