Xbox ends Copilot on consoles, winds down mobile version
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stopped development of the Gaming Copilot feature for Xbox consoles and announced the company will wind down the mobile Copilot app. Sharma said Copilot "doesn't align with where we're headed" and has brought in former Microsoft AI leaders to overhaul Xbox's product priorities. Dropping Copilot removes an in console AI assistant that would have provided gameplay tips and accessibility support, and signals Xbox will reallocate resources to other AI initiatives and platform priorities.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma - "We will begin winding down Copilot on mobile and will stop development of Copilot on console."
how about winding down copilot in general, no one wants that shit
Good. Forced “AI” integration sucks so much.
They were putting Copilot on console? I would rather have my kettle write me a haiku when I'm having sencha
Seems to me between the Game Pass pricing pivot and now Copilot, Asha actually took time to listen to feedback and is making smart changes. Keep it up.
Honestly this is the opposite of what I was expecting when she took the position, given what her role in Microsoft was before. Good news.
So far, she's doing a good job
I didn't even realize that was on console lol
Can it be taken off of Windows 11 PCs by default too?
I pray for the downfall of Copilot and everything else like it
Ok Xbox...I still haven't decided to give you money again, BUT you at least have my attention for now. Next tell me you're expanding backward compatibility again and we'll talk.
I can’t wait for @edzitron.com to give us the smiling face.
Good change and I'm all for it - but I'm baffled by the constant back and forth. Wasnt long ago (month?) when they were like "copilot for xbox coming!!1". But.. I shouldnt complain in this case since wins a win. Just hoping next week its not different again 🙃
Now tell the people in the Windows buildings across campus to do the same... 🙄
Okay, now THIS is actually a big change I can appreciate. Thanks for not wasting money.
My biggest issue with AI is no choice. If it has to be forced on everything then that tells me I don't want it. This is a good move. Honestly confused because MS doesn't do that often anymore.
They're nice promises, but it Xbox taught me one thing, it's not to celebrate until I see some actual change.
What does CoPilot on console even mean?
Just because they wind down Copilot does not mean that MicroSlop won't try to stealthily shoehorn in "AI" under some other name.
Given she was previously head of the CoreAI division, I had initially assumed she'd have pushed for MORE AI in Xbox. I am very pleasantly surprised, to say the least.
Get it the eff outta MS Paint next -_- (won't even let me make a section box without trying to fill it with some ai nonsense).
Just get rid of it altogether. I didn’t use it when it was Cortana and I don’t use it now.
Well great! Now what Xbox exclusives are there to be excited about now?!
now that's a good first step
Asha Sharma has been head of xbox for like 2 months and she's already conclusively proven that Phil Spencer must have just been sitting in his office jerking off all day that man was NOT working
You notice how she keeps saying things, and then actually doing them? A shocking paradigm shift for xbox leadership
Honestly quite funny how the former AI CEO is the one reeling back all the AI shit that Phil allowed to creep in
Jim "Do Everything Wrong" Ryan vs Phil "Don't Nothing At All" Spencer This is the legacy of the true console war.
There's a reason every time Xbox laid people off people would look up his playtimes on Destiny 2 and Fallout 76, dude just played games at the office
based tbh. Dude was living the dream
Lol. Lmao. Not so easy to make a GameFAQs robot that doesn't tell kids to eat bleach, is it, MS. insider-gaming.com/xbox-no-long...
The more this slides, the more I wonder if the AI CEO actually failed upwards? But into another division that's rapidly dying? Which paints a very funny picture of the entire AI biz space bsky.app/profile/mobu...
Note that the current CEO was from Microsoft’s ai division, so this is a pretty notable backslide.
Exactly. If I actually wanted an overbearing chat window that backseat games while telling me to eat bleach, I'd become a Twitch streamer.
We made this thing that no one wanted... now we realize no one wanted it so we are gonna be canceling production on the thing no one wanted. XD
I want to be mildly optimistic about this, but microsoft has already been caught saying "we're going to be more intentional about where we use copilot" (which people read as "we're removing it") and the first thing they did was remove the copilot icon from notepad... but not remove the AI.
Asha Sharma has overhauled parts of the Xbox leadership team “Right now, it is too hard to ship impact quickly. We spend too much time inward instead of with the community, and we lack the depth we need in some of the fundamentals” via: CNBC cnbc.com/2026/05/05/mic…
Xbox is “bringing in new leaders with consumer and technical expertise we do not yet have,” she wrote in the memo. Four of those leaders are coming from the CoreAI group, overlapping with Sharma. via CNBC cnbc.com/2026/05/05/mic…
That sounds like corporate nonsense speak. Shipping impact?
