New Planet of the Apes movie set, Matt Shakman to direct

Matt Shakman will direct a new Planet of the Apes film for 20th Century, with Josh Friedman writing the screenplay. Shakman most recently directed Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Friedman served as a co-writer on that project before signing on to pen this original Apes installment. 20th Century says the movie is an original, standalone entry rather than a direct sequel to 2024's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. This pairing gives the studio a chance to reset the franchise's creative direction with a director experienced in large-scale tentpoles.

I have no opinion on Matt Shakman as a director, but this potentially not being a continuation of KINGDOM's story threads blow. I mean I'm excited for more PoTA, but there were some exciting possibilites left on the table with that film. Shame.
