When I was working on my first book, Nature Obscura, I wrote to David Attenborough to tell him how much he inspired me, which led to me writing that book and to thank him. I never expected a hand written letter in return. It's one of my greatest treasures. Happy 100th birthday, Sir David.

I once had the great honour and privilege of interviewing David Attenborough - on set - for a short piece back in 2014. We chatted about how dragonflies move their wings, among other stuff. It was a cool moment because I had only just quit my old job a month before to go freelance full-time.

Have just discovered that David Attenborough is the reason that tennis balls are yellow. Apparently they used to be black or white and hard to make out on black and white tv (obviously) but he realised yellowy green was easier to see and that is why they are now that colour. Amazing.

In just two hours he hits 100. David Attenborough is a national treasure.

At 100 years old, David Attenborough (born May 8, 1926) remains one of my greatest heroes. Especially in these times, his integrity, wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to protecting nature feel increasingly rare. Truly a treasure to humanity. 🧡 Thank you for truly making a difference.
