ABC argues FCC violated First Amendment in dispute over The View
ABC filed a legal challenge saying the Federal Communications Commission's inquiry into whether The View still qualifies for a 2002 broadcast news exemption violates the First Amendment. ABC emphasized the exemption was granted in 2002, went unchallenged for 24 years, and that its court paperwork was filed on behalf of a single ABC station in Houston. The company says the FCC escalated scrutiny by opening an inquiry into The View and then unusually reviewing the licenses of all eight ABC owned local stations years before their expirations, and the filing was signed by a top Supreme Court litigator. If a court sides with ABC, the decision could curb the FCC's ability to use licensing processes to police broadcasters' viewpoints and preserve long-standing news exemptions for national talk shows.
Good for ABC. It's about time that corporate owners push back on Trump's outrageous attacks on the 1A. "it noted that the agency has questioned talk shows critical of the president, like “The View,” but not radio talk shows supportive of the administration..." www.nytimes.com/2026/05/08/b...
In a world of CBS, be ABC. CBS had the opportunity to do the right thing and they blew it.
Donald can turn his fucken channels like everyone else does! IT'S OVER: Donald Trump is now the LEAST POPULAR president in American history.
Should have grown a pair 11 years ago.
Better late than never, I guess.
If he was capable of doing the job, he’d be too busy to watch tv.
Breaking News: ABC accused the U.S. government of violating the First Amendment in a dispute with the FCC over “The View.” The network’s argument is the most aggressive posture taken yet by a TV network toward the Trump administration.
Oh wow you mean the media finally getting balls for an administration with a 30% approval rating? About fucking time.
It’s about time the fourth estate grew a pair.
The subservience and complicity of US corporate media has been enough to make Putin wince.
Mickey and Minnie take aim at The Donald and his henchman for seeking retribution....a gutsy, and right decision by Disney's new CEO.
Interesting – does this mean they will also start sticking up for Jimmy Kimmel in future?
