Liane Lippert rode clear from the morning break and is solo toward the summit finish on L'Angliru with about 7.4 km remaining. She held a gap of 1 minute 23 seconds at that point after earlier enjoying a maximum advantage of roughly 3 minutes 32 seconds on Stage 7, the 132 km longest day that started in Pola Llaviana. Lotte Kopecky wears the green points jersey and will keep it if she finishes the stage. A win for Lippert on L'Angliru would be a major result and could reshuffle the general classification on one of women's cycling's toughest climbs.
