Frontier plane strikes person on Denver runway
A Frontier Airlines Airbus A321 aborted takeoff at Denver International Airport Friday after striking a pedestrian on the runway while departing for Los Angeles. The impact killed the pedestrian, sparked an engine fire onboard the A321, and forced an emergency evacuation of passengers. Airport operations were disrupted as emergency responders contained the fire; no other fatalities were reported. Authorities opened an investigation into how the person accessed the active runway, raising questions about airport perimeter security and passenger safety.
The pedestrian, who has not been identified, is not believed to be an airport employee.
BBC got it right apple.news/AvIjhgzgtQUW...
You make it sound like the plane failed to yield at a crosswalk.
If this implies what I think it does this is some final destination type shit. What a terrible way to go.
The plane was leaving the airport…not the pedestrian who jumped the fence and was running across the tarmac when struck by the plane during takeoff. AI driven headlines suck.
If you're walking across an active runway you're not a pedestrian you're a trespasser. Say a prayer for the people who are going to have to clean that mess up.
I'd like to how someone got out there. I know DIA. It my local airport. I have never seen anybody on the ground unless they work for one of the airlines. You can't even step out onto a balcony for a cigarette at DIA like you could at Stapleton.
There is no such thing as a "pedestrian" on an active runway. The term you're looking for is "trespasser".
Trying to hold the pilot in my heart he/she must be inconsolable. Thoughts for the injured passengers too and the family of the person killed as well as the actual person. Bad bad day.peace to all concerned.
@actfortransit.bsky.social media framing seems a bit challenged with this crash.
How many more disasters do we have to accept from incompetent transportation secretary, Sean Duffy?
Pedestrian???? I think your headline is jacked
Well if I’d just been killed by a plane I’d leave the airport too, sheesh.
Don't worry, the transportation secretary was on faux news focusing on promoting his new series about his 7 month long family vacation around the US being generously paid for by the tax payers. #Fuckyouduffy
Traveling will get you broke and dead now. Stay home people.
Don't care if he's an airport employee. I need to know how and why he was on the runway, to get killed like that.
And what about that engine fire on the same plane?? Did the pedestrian hit and killed have anything to do with that? What a bizarre story!
You say “pedestrian crossing the runway” like that’s what we all do - like it’s normal. It isn’t. People don’t walk on runways. The person was trespassing.
GREAT JOB Transportation SEAN DUFFY. YOU ARE FUCKING A DISGRACE
Suicidal person hops fence and runs at oncoming plane to get sucked into the jet engine. There, use a REAL headline FFS.
Oh, here's a big smooth road, I wonder where this goes?
How could someone have known it was a bad idea to walk out onto a jet runway— aside from all the fences and signs I mean. 🙆🏻♂️🚩
Guess he won't take a walk on the runway anymore.
All I know is we never had airliners killing pedestrians when Pete Buttigieg was Sec. of Transportation.
Why is it we read about a person dying, but never the one we want dead?
No fear Duffy is on a 7 month long vacation
So? the "pedestrian" was an "intruder"?
So they were a 3rd party employee or a customer. This is just gobbly gook.
I assume the late pedestrian was not walking in a clearly marked crosswalk across the runway.
Identified? At that power setting and speed he was ground into human hamburger….
Probably a wayward Kansan lost on the prairie.
the group of passengers closely inspecting the turbine?
Soooo… A Frontier Airlines plane hit a person on the runway of Denver International Airport upon takeoff. Perhaps that guy from The Real World, Sean Duffy, should be spending less time hyping his 7 month road trip and more time doing his actual job.
United clips a truck on approach to Newark, Delta employee dies on the job when a tug vehicle hits a jet bridge in Orlando, Frontier flight hits a person on the runway in Denver--all within the past few days. At least one horrific aviation disaster per day seems to be Duffy's new FAA standard.
The thing is, he’s doing the job Trump wanted him to do; Nothing
No, no, no, it’s Joe Biden’s fault. Don't worry, it's coming. We had an Amtrak train crash in NC the other day, and two people die after being hit by two different trains on Thursday and Friday. I haven't seen any reporting on those. They were also Joe Biden’s fault. He was at the beach. 🙄
Sean Duffy, out there filming Road Rules; Waste, Fraud, and Abuse edition, is way too busy to be bothered with collisions that are most definitely Joe's fault. Or do we just blame Pete? I can't keep up with who's actually responsible for Sean's real job anymore.
In the four years that Secretary Buttigieg ran the Department of Transportation, every single airliner that took off in the U.S. landed safely without killing anyone, even the plane that lost a door in midflight. Just sayin’.
Sean Duffy’s in his sprinter van playing road rules on our dime
How can that even happen?
BREAKING: A Frontier Airlines flight departing Denver International Airport for Los Angeles appeared to strike a person on the runway Friday, an aviation source briefed on the incident told ABC News. Fire crews were dispatched to the aircraft to extinguish the engine fire.
Wait, they hit a person walking on an active runway AND had an engine fire? Sounds like that person got sucked into the aircraft engine.
I’m not getting near an airport. Though, under the Trump regime, that still doesn’t mean I’m not going to randomly get run over by a plane.
The article includes details that are being asked about in comments. The answers are in the article if you Read The Article
What was a person doing on the runway?
It's always a good idea to look both before crossing a runway.
I’m sorry but what the FUCK are we doing at airports “The person was at least partially consumed by one of the engines, an official confirmed to ABC News, causing a brief engine fire that was extinguished by firefighters.”
First question from Secretary Duffy: Was the person dressed in pajamas or a suit?
Suicide by jumping into the intake of a jet engine ?
It is already on the internet. Someone walking across the runway. Crazy!
Well it's a good thing Sean Duffy spent months making a new reality show. I'm sure right wing media would never make an issue of it were Buttigieg still the transportation secretary and collisions kept happening on runways.
Anyone else think that since a dumbfuck reality tv bozo took over responsibility for airline safety things have been, not safe?
It’s ok, Duffy is making a reality show about driving across the country
I need some perspective: are incidents like this happening more and more or is it just being reported on more? Because I feel crazy.
WTAF Did they use AI to write this? What news outfit other than an evangelist one refers to passengers as “souls” in their reporting? Sloppy. 🙄
It's Biden's and Buttigieg's fault
Duffy will be MIA until it's time to appear on the news and blame Biden.
Banana republic gonna banana republic. Gut everything. Remove figurative and literal guardrails and let the circus commence. At least we footed the bill for the transport secretary’s family to take a seven month road trip. Priorities seem straight.
Come to America, fly and watch the World Cup, don't worry about ICE arresting you or our dangerous fight handling or being ripped off with sky-high prices.
Apparently walking on a runway isn’t such a good idea. Put since critical thinking left the room since trump was elected, I guess the pedestrian was definitely not using the stuffing between their ears.
And Duffy’s been on a road trip.
A Frontier Airlines plane hit and killed a pedestrian on the runway of the Denver International Airport during takeoff, airport authorities said, sparking an engine fire and forcing passengers to evacuate.
The word you’re looking for is intruder, not pedestrian
Pedestrian? And whoever wrote this gets paid to do it.
There’s no pedestrian paths on runways.
Engine fire presumably means the intruder got sucked in. Yeesh.
There is no circumstance where the word “pedestrian” is correct here.
I don't think pedestrian is the correct word. It isn't like the pilot ran a red light.
Good thing the secretary of transportation spent the last 7 months filming a reality tv show.
The use of "pedestrian" feels intentionally ambiguous to generate clicks. Totally different context if this was a ground crew member instead of a trespasser.
I'm too tired for this right now, AP
Not sure "pedestrian" is the correct word to use here. Maybe Sean Duffy can explain.
Translation: passenger sucked into engine. Causes fire. No one wants to say it.
Dudes are busy taking a road trip and filming a reality show bsky.app/profile/atru...
Have you considered a career that doesn't require the precise use of words or the comprehension of their meaning?
TIL I must walk only on sidewalks or across streets - places near the all-important car, the most important being on Earth. Otherwise I’m not really a pedestrian.
You're all so annoying ffs
And this is why we need to remove pedestrian crosswalks from all airport runways.
There are no pedestrians on active runways.
This is proof that it pays off to look both ways before crossing the runway. The same applies to school crossings and other byways and highways. People cross super busy divided freeways in cities. It’s frequently a bad idea.
Let's see that bitch Sean Duffy blame Biden for this. Yet another plane accident under that unqualified toadies' watch.
Trying to remember who fired all the security personnel. Sure seems to be a lot of safety incidents under his supervision....oh wait....he's on road trips
Hopped the fence after 11 p.m. to walk across a live runway. Dramatic way to do suicide, but other folks were injured and someone had to pay for passengers' hotel etc. Selfish.
Why was there a pedestrian on the runway tho
Trespasser, not pedestrian. Y'all will exonorative case every cop on earth but will call a person trespassing a pedestrian.
What was he doing walking on the runway? Was he an airline employee?
Denver International Airport said the person had jumped a fence and dashed into the aircraft's path minutes before being struck. n.pr/49DKHXj
“ABC News reported that the person struck was "at least partially consumed" by one of the craft's engines, leading to a brief fire.” Well that’s some Final Destination level shit 😬
Pedestrian? Odd choice of words.
Strange way to check out. As we have all seen lately, too many people are losing their minds with the state of our world. Please Check in. Socialize with others. Be kind. Offer to listen to others problems. Sadly it will not always work with mentally broken people, but at least you tried.
I’m guessing there were no trains nearby. Sad but sounds like a suicide.
You keep calling this person a pedestrian, I don't think that word means what you think it means.
Airports have a fence around them for a reason. It’s a felony to jump the fence for a reason. A number of reasons. If you survive, these are the charges you may face, (and a possible designation on a No-Fly list) enjoy:
Any Denver friends online right now? My daughter in law and granddaughter were on a frontier flight to LA that never made it off the ground after it hit someone on the runway and blew the engine. I may need someone to get some things to her if they don’t get belongings off the plane.
I read this and thought “Surely she doesn’t mean the plane hit a person“ but then I listened to the ATC audio and that sounds horrific.
Let me know if I should start driving out to the airport, what does she need??
Oh dear lord. I will keep a good thought that they don't get traumatized over this. Let them know plenty of us are thinking of them.
Horrific event. I hope she didn't have to see much of the aftermath, that could potentially be a very traumatic experience.
omg 😳 I hope they’ll be ok
Wow- that’s terrible! Hope she’s ok as well as everyone else ♥️
Early this morning a Frontier Airlines Flight, from Denver Int'l Airport to Los Angeles, was forced into an emergency evacuation after a man reportedly walked onto the active runway and was sucked into one of the aircraft’s engines during takeoff.
The impact triggered a brief engine fire, which was quickly extinguished by airport firefighters. Officials later confirmed the individual had been walking on the runway prior to the incident, though the reason remains unknown and is now under investigation.
Great to see the safety of flying in the States has significantly increased with the removal of DEI staff.
Yikes. Poor soul🙏. They must have been in a lot of pain. Sadly I think we are heading for a ride in deaths by suicide
