Science SARU’s Ghost in the Shell gets July 7 release date

Science SARU's Ghost in the Shell anime will premiere July 7 after the studio released a poster and a new trailer that emphasize a retro, Shirow-manga-inspired visual direction. Promotional materials also revealed additional staff and character designs, with Moko-chan from Dandadan named among the directors and The Major and Batou shown in manga-accurate looks. Artists and cosplayers are turning those designs into fully rendered key-art, character studies, short animatics, chibi comics, and costume recreations. Many standout pieces center on The Major's classic redesign and Batou's updated appearance, plus reinterpretations of iconic manga moments captured in the new key visuals.

I dunno, man. It's got the pedigree, but the appeal of GitS is that it always took its material seriously. Especially during the SAC era, it was thought-provoking social sci-fi that deconstructed the cyberpunk genre, and the visual and narrative style reflected that. This trailer just looks goofy.
