Oil prices rise as U.S.-Iran talks stall

financeMay 12, 202623141

Brent crude jumped more than 3% Tuesday after the U.S. dismissed Tehran's ceasefire overture, pushing futures to Rs 9,707 per barrel and reviving supply concerns. The rise marked a third straight day of gains as traders priced in prolonged Middle East disruption and HSBC raised its 2026 Brent forecast to an average $95 a barrel, up from $80. President Donald Trump proposed suspending the federal gas tax to blunt rising pump prices, a measure that would require congressional approval. The shift matters because sustained supply risk can lift global fuel costs, feed higher consumer inflation, and strain vulnerable economies.
