Reform UK, largest party in Birmingham vote, says it will not run council

politicsMay 13, 202617344

Reform UK topped the local vote share in Birmingham but announced it will not form the city council administration. Councillor Jex Parkin, the party's local leader, said Reform UK will decline leadership and expects other council groups to agree a governing arrangement. The move follows a national surge for Reform UK in the local elections while the Conservatives and Labour suffered major losses and the Liberal Democrats gained seats. That leaves Reform UK as the largest party by vote share without running city services, shaping which coalitions govern Birmingham and limiting how the surge translates into direct control of council policy.
