SC Supreme Court overturns Alex Murdaugh's murder convictions
The South Carolina Supreme Court unanimously vacated Alex Murdaugh's 2023 convictions for the murders of his wife Maggie Murdaugh and son Paul Murdaugh and ordered a new trial. The justices concluded the trial was tainted by improper jury influence from a circuit-court clerk WHO communicated with jurors and had a financial interest tied to the case. State prosecutors will pursue a quick retrial, and Murdaugh remains jailed on separate financial-crimes convictions, so the ruling does not immediately free him.
