Nigel Farage bought £1.4m house after £5m gift
Nigel Farage paid cash for a £1.4 million house in May 2024 after receiving a £5 million personal gift from Thailand-based British crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne. Christopher Harborne has described the payment as a "reward" for Farage's 27 years of campaigning for Brexit, while Farage has also said the money was for his personal security. The parliamentary standards watchdog is investigating whether Farage properly declared the multi-million-pound gift under MPs' rules. The probe matters because it raises questions about transparency and potential donor influence over a prominent political figure WHO owns multiple properties.
Farage doesn't think the usual rules apply to him. He thinks he's a special case and that the world needs to stand around clapping as some Thai dwelling crypto billionaire hands him £5 million for making Brexit happen. This is NOT normal www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
Johnson was the same. Trump is the same.
If that’s the house he lied about his girlfriend buying him we need to know what HMRC will be doing about the Stamp Duty he dodged.
If it was reward for doing something, then it wasn't a gift and he should have paid tax on it. I have to pay my plumber today, if I say it's a gift for sorting my heating out maybe I can avoid VAT and he can avoid income tax on it.
When you get away with it for 20 years getting away with it becomes the norm.
I wonder if the solicitors checked where the cash came from. Standard anti money laundering checks should have step alarms ringing
Farage has always skirted round the rules as he fleeces all and sundry - as an MEP he did the same.
It needs a name how about “populist extremism”
And there was me thinking he needed the money for security. Not exactly sure how big a ballroom £5 million will get you but I'm sure it would be at least milkshake proof...
I'll bet he's worried about a Guardian journalist being there...and not for any illegitimate reason he's implying, just because he hates scrutiny so much. How does he think it will go if he ever becomes PM? Although, I'm sure he'd love to use the Trump playbook to cow the media into silence.
I don't see the problem. Farage always promised there were huge rewards from Brexit. He just forgot to tell us that the huge rewards are just for him and the rest of us would just have to suck it up.
I don't think Farage cares if he gets sanctioned or not. In fact it might even be deliberate and he'd welcome it as it will add to his notoriety as well as play to his persecution complex, grievance politics/grifting.
It’s perfectly normal for privileged Ex-Public School boys though. Johnson was the dame, Tice is the same. They look down on us plebs with contempt and disdain. They are convinced of their ‘right’ to do whatever they want because they are better than us. Bought privilege.
Aladdin’s cave, and spent 20 years fleecing the EU as an MEP. And he still gets £75000 year pension. What more do people need to know about this professional Charlatan?
He’s right to think it though. Certainly he’s been treated that way by the media
What is absolutely not normal is, is UK media news blanket whitewash of Farage and ReformUK situation and policies. Again not normal is voters voting for ReformUK. Looking at my last form class of 36 classmates, potentially 9 of them are ReformUK voters. That to me is gobsmacking!
Bet it wasn’t located in Clacton.
It appears the rules didn’t apply to him in his schooldays either so it’s a lifelong pattern of extreme arrogance and entitlement.
He is a special case, just not for clapping, more for investigating
BREAKING: Reform UK leader Nigel Farage bought £1.4m house in cash shortly after receiving £5m personal gift from crypto-billionaire Christopher Harborne. Reform says the "offer and process" of buying the property commenced before gift. Intriguing story by @alifortescuenews.bsky.social
This sounds like a different one to the £885k house bought by his girlfriend?
Can they prove that? Money laundering rules mean you need to show where money has come from when buying a property.
Presumably you will be hounding Farage in the same way other non Reform politicians have been by the press - or will you bottle it yet again when it is the man of the people? The grifter needs to be taken down once and for all.
Possible or alleged corruption and money laundering have to be investigated surely.
This stinks to high heaven.
Would love to know what Harborne is getting in return for his very generous "gifts"
Ali hasn't posted here for a year Pippa - here's the direct link to her story: Nigel Farage bought £1.4m property after receiving £5m from crypto billionaire, Sky News learns | Politics News | Sky News share.google/rTMuReQTsNRi...
Please keep going after F*rage. He is a cocky sod and as slippery as an eel, but the brown stuff is finally hitting the whirly thing, which can only be for the good of British politics.
www.independent.co.uk/bulletin/new... so was he lying when he said he bought it originally? …of when he said his girlfriend bought it ?.. or is he lying now ?
He knew he was about to get the money.
Top Tip....Never trust anything that Reform say. Lying is the only way they can win. Always question their actions and publish online any provable shit they do. Especially the racism shit.
But why buy a house in Clacton - especially when he's been so rude about the place?!
Keep digging, Pippa. I'm sure their is more to this than meets the eye.
who among us have not offered cash on a house then had a phone around to ask for the money?
He can afford £1.4m in cash but needs a 'gift' to pay for personal security that doesn't cover surgeries in Clacton?? And he is a man of the people, what a load of 💩
Reform will keep changing the story
I think you mean. The "offer and process" of buying the property commenced before GRIFT and not gift
Anyone surprised? Just wait until the Standards Commission gets down to work!
Looks like Pippa has been reading some other papers, or watching the telly news?
Ah, before the gift was given but was it before the gift was offered
Farage says £5m gift was a reward for Brexit campaigning. Billionaire living in Thailand bought Brexit. Previously, Farage said £5m was for his security. What next? After receiving £5m, Farage bought £1.4m property in cash, one of the four he owns through a company. Partner has another one.
How many massive red flags are needed before HMRC and others, leap into action to investigate? Or, is it true that politicans are exempt from scrutiny?
Now we know how much he charges to break things.
Great … he gets rewarded and we (especially our children) get right royally fucked
What is there to discuss? "The facts are simple, Farage took £5M from a crypto billionaire, tried to cover it up, and bought an expensive house after taking the money. Not only that, he promised to cut taxes on crypto transactions. It’s open and shut conflict of interest.”
Next: "The money was simply resting in my account."
If a reward is that payment and therefore taxable? If it was a reward for political activity should have been reported as such?
Nothing says "I haven't done anything wrong" more than changing your story. To me it sounds worse than his original excuse. After all, he was a paid MEP when he campaigned for Brexit. Surely all the more reason not to be accepting millions in a gift.....
While Streeting does his thing, Farage gets deeper in the weeds. If £5m was a 'gift', he could do as he pleased with it. But recall he said the money was to pay for security? Either he had £1.4m from his other work *that he used for a house rather than security*, or the 'security' line was nonsense
Everything that comes out of his mouth is utter bollocks. He is a serial liar
Turns out it was for "housing" security...
Mr Farage when are you next appearing on TV (not GB News or Cameo videos) in order that you can answer questions regarding your gifts, funding & tax arrangements Is that never ? No surprise there then
A political figure receiving millions from a billionaire as thanks for helping deliver one of the most economically damaging decisions in modern British history does, in fact, feel like the sort of thing we should maybe all be slightly more alarmed by.
A Friday morning ‘haiku’: Five million quid A g(r)ift for a fascist prick If it smells of shit …
Let's also not forget Bear that when Nigel posted that picture of the journalist, unedited to cover up his name and job (had his picture on his NUJ card) that is possible that he may of doxxed or at the very least, done a GDPR breach (2 bits of personal information released without consent)
