Chancellor Merz says he would not advise his children to move to the US
Chancellor Friedrich Merz told schoolchildren in Würzburg he would not recommend his children move to or study in the United States, citing the 'social climate developing there'. At the same event he quipped 'I am a big admirer of the US. But my admiration is currently not growing'. The remarks deepen a transatlantic rift as the United States has announced a partial troop withdrawal from Germany and imposed higher tariffs on EU cars, heightening tensions with Berlin.
