Mets reliever Clay Holmes suffers fractured fibula

Clay Holmes fractured his fibula after being struck by a comebacker off the bat of Spencer Jones in the fourth inning. Manager Carlos Mendoza said Holmes will be out "a long time" and called the loss "a huge blow," noting Holmes had been one of the Mets' most consistent late-inning arms. Holmes remained in the game and pitched into the fifth before exiting. The injury removes a primary high-leverage option from the Mets bullpen during a critical stretch of the season.
