Georgia Supreme Court races: Warren leads Jordan; Rankin tight with Bethel

There seems to not have been much translation between people picking the Democratic Party primary, and actually voting for the Democratic-backed candidates in these races *with no party label.* The results are especially bad for Jen Jordan in her race against Warren; that one seems close to done.

GOP-backed Justice Sarah Warren has held her Georgia Supreme Court seat over Dem candidate Jen Jordan. This could mean a conservative majority on Georgia’s court through the transfer of power after the 2028 presidential election. Also watching: Miracle Rankin vs. Charlie Bethel

Curious if Rankin is significantly overperforming in places with more Black voters, because "Miracle Rankin" codes way Blacker than "Jen Jordan"

Miracle Rankin and Jen Jordan have been joined at the hip for two months. I haven't seen one referenced or interviewed without the other. Absolutely baffling.

Democratic voters disproportionately walked into the voting booth and - knowing nothing else it seems - voted for women candidates. Republicans voted for whoever they saw more of, unless they knew the candidate. This is my only explanation for Miracle Rankin outpolling Jen Jordan.

I think it’s that it reads Black and so the partisanship was evident whereas Jen Jordan sounds like a white Republican lady. Bad voter education from the party!

One big thing in particular for anyone voting today in Georgia: Two of our Supreme Court seats that are currently occupied by Republicans (Charlie Bethel and Sarah Warren) are being run against by Democrats Miracle Rankin and Jen Jordan, so let's do our best to try to flip some of these seats!

3 maybe reasons for this split: 1) Racial polarization is powering Miracle Rankin but not Jen Jordan 2) The gender divide is more stark with Rankin as she is running against a man 3) Voters just really hate how Jen Jordan pronounces her last name (Jerr-dan) or she is cursed (3rd time she has lost?)

CALL: Sarah Hawkins Warren, former solicitor general of Georgia, has won reelection to the Georgia Supreme Court, defeating former State Senator Jen Jordan, who was backed by the Democratic Party.

I’m almost convinced that a lot of Georgia Voters didn’t know Their were (2) Supreme Court seats up for General Election today. I also think Jen (Jim) Jordan vs Sarah (Elizabeth) Warren confused some of them or something. They put the SCOTUS section in a weird spot after poll questions too.

Given the officially nonpartisan nature of the race, my guess is this is voters using name cues to figure out who to vote for. In a racially polarized state like Georgia “Jen Jordan” could easily be a white conservative if you’re not familiar with the candidates

I wouldn’t take too much away from judicial races I’m more curious about Dem primaries but outside of Jen jordan it may not actually be the worst situation?

my cynical take is that if Miracle Rankin pulls it out while Jen Jordan loses to Sarah Warren, it is because gender and otherwise uninformed voters saw a man vs woman race and assumed it was R v D while the woman vs woman race didn't have that difference
