James Stewart remembered on his birthday

On May 20, film pages and admirers commemorated actor James Stewart's birthday (born 1908), sharing quotes, stills, and fan art. Tributes spotlighted his "I will not yield" line from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, a Rear Window commission rendered in ink, pencil, and watercolor, a 1940 set photo of Stewart with Margaret Sullavan and Ernst Lubitsch from The Shop Around the Corner, and his quote about graduating with an architecture degree and a scholarship to return to Princeton. The reminders underline Stewart's enduring influence on midcentury American cinema and give clear entry points for new viewers to revisit his landmark performances and films.
