Stephen Colbert returns to Monroe public‑access show with Jack White
Colbert guest hosted a public access TV show in Monroe, Michigan a day after the Late Show ended. Guest star: Jeff Daniels Special appearance by: Eminem Musical director: Jack White Genius. youtu.be/jJTXB5uT_C4?...
it was so goddam funny, i hope he travels the country, popping into all the states community channels.
not his first time hosting Only in Monroe
Remember when Conan lost his NBC show and ceased to exist? www.businessinsider.com/conan-obrien...
Haha something delightfully retro about late night public access tv.
This is where I subscribed to Colbert's personal Youtube Channel.
the ONE time I miss "Only in Monroe"
People forget he rolled with improv crews like Amy Sedaris. Now he has no leash and zero fucks so we're going to get some really wild good shit.
This was my first year in Aspen when I worked at the Wheeler. In a few weeks it will be the end of my 20th year in this lovely valley. The highlight is still...THIS night!!
Never count Stephen out just because CBS bent over! Im POSITIVE he & his friends have already planned something that tRUMP CAN'T TOUCH & WILL SEND HIM TO THAT MUCH AWAITED MASSIVE STROKE!!
Trump doesn’t realize, with other platforms he just made Colbert more popular
Thought to check out a couple of minutes. Watched the whole damn thing! Hilarious! 😂 😂
Why is the giggling in the background so comforting? 😄
Im telling you: PBS needs to offer Stephen and Evie a cooking show! @pbs.org
I was moved by this moment when she was talking about her thyroid cancer.
I love the whole "Fernwood Tonight" vibe. The comedy genius continues.
OMG. Thank you so much for posting this. LOL. Colbert is a national treasure. The man is so fucking funny.
This is the new punk
I have too much to do today so I'm pausing it for later--but it's FANTASTIC! Thank you so much for sharing it, Dave. Stephen Colbert is a delight. And I'm now in possession of the knowledge that there must be at least 150 Sasquatch in existence to perpetuate the species, thanks to Jack White.
It's so good. Loving the hyperlocal southeast Michigan stuff!
I'm a little disturbed that after one of the musical interludes Colbert asked Jack White 'who was that', White replied 'I don't know' when he knows exactly who's music it was, only the greatest band to come out of Detroit, and some would argue the reason the White Stripes ever existed, The Gories.
Impressed by Jack White's comedic timing.
Brings back happy memories of Martin Mull and Fernwood / America Tonight.
Colbert and Jack White must be real buddies. I like that.
Man! He hasn't lost a step, since The Late Show!
I feel like Stephen Colbert has enough money he could just spend the rest of his life humiliating CBS on every media platform available in the most passive aggressive way possible. Beating Tony D's ratings on a toothbrush that runs Doom would be the GOAT.
Shout out to Genevieve Benson. A deadpan goddess who matches Colbert. (And of course the dumpster fire)
Even now, he is spreading joy... from Michigan.
He could single-handedly revive PBS
Steve Buscemi did a great 'commercial' too!
I love this man so much. I can't wait to see CBS tank in the weeks to come.
I love this. So punk rock. I donated www.monroecommunitymedia.org
Thanks for sharing this! 😎
BTW One of my favorite series staring Jeff Daniels' Newsroom 2012-2014 Extremely timely for our times. I watch it often - It's a show that never seeks to uplift me and help escape today Highly recommend watching it en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New...
Just finished it. So great!!!!! Quite the balm after I balled my eyes out at the end of The Late Show. CBS cut it off, can only watch the astonishingly touching 8+min ending on YouTube.
Monroe is the place to be! More dispensaries than churches!!!
Excuse me as I run to the store for pita, Jif, Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce and Ruffles sour cream and onion chips 😋
We are all so lucky to experience Colbert’s unhinged era. It’s going to be glorious.
“Michigan Public access is coming for you” needs to be a T-shirt
I have now watched more of Monroe Public Broadcasting this year than CBS and what a pleasant joy!
I am not, repeat not stoned and I am laughing out loud! Please Stephen and Jack syndicate this show! I would watch regularly!!!! I am laughing so hard I am crying!
That's the channel where Colbert started.
Holy crap, the hotdog bit with Jack was hilarious. 😂
So funny including Genevieve Benson, one of the public access TV employees. Thanks for posting.
Just watched it. My favorite segment was him eating that awful sandwich with Jeff Daniels. They couldn't even talk it was so dry. I'll watch Stephen Colbert anytime anywhere. Thanks Monroe MI. And don't forget to #BoycottCBSParamount and everything Skydance and the Ellisons own.
This is fantastic. I hope Colbert spends the rest of his career guest hosting local access shows.
This is the most Michigan lineup anyone could imagine. Was JD Simmons not available?
Haha...epic "The nazis bought media up...so lets just take the eyes with us and rebuild media wherever we want" Brilliant
Don’t know why this hit so hard, but it did
This was so funny. I hope this is the starting of many public access shows.
My weekend is finally off to a good start. Laughing out loud, scaring my dog, driving my husband outside to "mow the lawn, or whatever he does out there when I am out of control.
That was fantastic!! Watched the whole thing and never laughed so much!
This is fucking awesome 🤩
OMG, I loved this. More Stephen please!!! ❤️❤️❤️
This is Good. SoooOOOooo good.
Wondering if he will be back on #TheDailyShow with Jon Stewart on Monday nite...
I didn't mean to watch the whole show, but, it was so damn funny I couldn't turn it off.
Thank you for posting. Delightful and true to character.
I gotta be honest. I can watch that show every day. It’s super funny and real. Refreshing when everything else feels preprogrammed.
I love how he hits the can because there is no audience.
This is so hilarious my ribcage hurts
He should barnstorm the country like this. It would be legendary.
I saw a Late Show with Stephen Colbert taping and what was evident was this is a guy with boundless energy, he was perfectly suited to be on TV five days a week. I don't think he could stop if wanted to, he needs to engage his muse constantly.
So weird to hear his jokes with no audience but the camera crew. No canned laughter either. All so quiet
Not a bad idea. Take the show on the road.
You can see here how dependent night show comedy is on a laugh track.
I can't believe how much I'm loving Stephens whole personality becoming trolling trump. 😍🤣🤣🤣
2028 Karma Prediction: Vengeance is best served with a humorous cold opening before going on your reality, the #SavageLateNight *Fuck Around with America and Find Out* what *We The People Vote* can do presidential campaign Stephen Colbert will run for President of the United States🇺🇸 in 2028 & #WIN
Oh, @agfab1968.bsky.social is going to love this.
I had just lit up, opened bluesky, ran over watched. Thank you for making my weekend, maybe my year!✌💜
This is as good as anything that was on his CBS show. It shows that good comedy doesn't require millions of dollars to produce. Would love to be able to support him directly, via Patreon?, to continue doing these a few times a month.
OMG… This just solidifies the brilliance of Stephen Colbert. This was so funny!
Man I love him. Colbert stan for life.
Thank you for this public service announcement. 🫶
Amazing how Stephen could bounce back from the emotionally overwhelming finale to making this video. Perhaps it was in the can already?
That is a very long list of "thanks to" credits for local public access; are those his writers and crew from his other, recently canceled show?
Much funnier concept that any content on the Late Show ever
What a goddamn talent with such talented staff. Meanwhile... Trump is off in the corner pulling the wings off flies so those shit-stained 80 year old spiders that crawl out from his man-skin-suit can catch them without expending what feeble little energy they have left.
Stephen Colbert is a national treasure: The day after his show was canned after 11 years by CBS to appease a tyrant, he shows up on the Monroe, MI public access channel where he did his first Late Show broadcast in 2015.
Stephen has a YT channel now. He started it a month ago. Classic dad profile pic youtube.com/@colbert?si=...
“Authoritarians don’t like anybody who doesn’t give them undue dignity.” “Comedians are anti-authoritarian by nature. And authoritarians are never going to like anybody to laugh at them.” #Colbert “If he wasn’t so dumb it might be diabolical – but it isn’t, he’s dumb.” By @jimmykimmel.com
Only in Monroe, now the highest rated.
... musical director, Jack White. "Left your wax cylinders at home?"
Excellent! He interviewed Eminem during that first show. Michiganders were thrilled. Thanks for posting! ✌️🍻
Thank you for sharing this!
It's the perfect coda/full-circle bonus ending.
I watched the whole thing. Jeff Daniels!!? Awesome.
We need to boost independent media, and finish up the corporate monopoly: they reached the position they hold today because they were not on the Internet, and people wouldn't have had any tech skills either.
So THAT'S how Milwaukee's Best gets made!
My hometown!! Born and rsised!
Thank you for this hilarious!!!
That was fun! Only with Stephen Colbert could you find out so little about...Michigan? Seriously, love Stephen. This was good.❤️
I typed Stephen Colbert in my YouTube search and this did not pull up. YT is suppressing Stephen. Only See BS came up. 😡
Oh, my word - that was hysterical. (I've had family in the Monroe area - the muskrat dinner is for real!) Thanks for sharing this.
Didn't Alex Jones start on public access? Perhaps Colbert could start 'Truthi-Wars'!
For America, the grand experiment of laughter, of free thought, of poking fun in the face of power, is witnessing the slow death of satire, and the executioner wears a long red tie...
Is UHF happening IRL right here!?!?!!?!?! Hey RJ!
An hilarious way to spend an hour. I hope Jack White gets a comedy acting career off the back of this.
"Still not sure how many people that is" cracked me right up.
If you didn’t watch through the end of the credits, you missed a great bonus moment.
Watching it now. As expected, even his totally unpaid crew and unpaid ads, with unpaid celebrities, and unpaid guests, being guided in and out of unpaid uncommercial breaks by an unpaid celebrity house band. Colbert could open shop anywhere, and kill it.
Jack and Genevieve — perfection!
That does it. I'm moving to Monroe.
Kudos to Jack White, too!!
Reminds me of Fernwood Tonight 🤣
Thank you for sharing this!! ❤😊
That’s one of the best things I’ve seen in a very long time.
I am not American, but I have watched bits of Stephen and his show over the years. Great to see him straight back at it. Thanks for sharing.
Yay for public access TV! I did my show for seven years straight in San Francisco. A lot of work!
May the light shine on him.
As a German I learned so much about Monroe - thanks Stephen 🥹
BRILLIANT Stephen Colbert didn’t miss a beat! 🔥👏💪😹
CBS is the new FOX and Friends, sucking up to authoritarian leaders and billionaires. Stephen has proven that democracy is dead.
That was absolutely fantastic, hilarious. Loved it
Wouldn’t it be great if Colbert’s pictures, interviews, videos were posted multiple times, daily so that America is seeing his face and hearing his voice instead of trumps?
The New U62! Next up: Wheel of Fish!
I thought it started a little slow at first, but it ended very well and an hour well spent.
This was well worth the watch! All the way to the end credits! Hilarious!
This was great! As usual, Stephen is the best! Thanks for sharing! Love it!!!
LOL the cannabis references in movie titles
This whole thing was brilliant. It made me think of his Better Know A District series in The Colbert Report. So much fun stuff.
Thank you for your service Sir!
that's the kind of defiance we need more of
So good - makes me certain that local public access TV will save us all.
For those of you already missing Stephen Colbert, he's resurfaced on community public access in Monroe, Michigan, and no, I am not joking: youtu.be/jJTXB5uT_C4
This man is like the comedy version of Mr. Rogers. No matter where he goes or appears, people are happy to see him / host him, he leaves a good impression, and he's a genuine human being.
He's in his Side quest era and I love that for him
This is glorious. I would love to see him stalking community access TV stations everywhere.
The story as to why he did it is really cute latenighter.com/news/stephen...
This is genius, just genius. Jack White sitting while being musical director is just hilarious.
It's also tagged his new yt channel, which bodes well. www.youtube.com/channel/UCGt...
The laughs and chuckles in the background when Colbert introduces himself is just perfect!🤣🤭😂
Stephen Colbert head-banging to "Bohemian Rhapsody" in a car.
It's amazing. Thank you Jack White!
Thanks for the public service. It’s even better without a studio audience and only the suppressed laughter of the crew.
be sure to stick around through the end of the credits
It would be amazing if he toured the country just doing a weekly local public access show from different stations and posting online.
Raised on public access, this is exactly my style.
Comics Unleashed doesn't stand a chance against Only In Monroe
Because #Michigan is the coolest place to be!
Jeff Daniels' sandwich sounds like one of your burritos.
Reminds me when he was doing shows from his house during the Covid shutdown. I kinda liked that format better. And he looked better with longer hair.
I am elated that this energy is reappearing in the world.
I want to start every day with an hour of pure joy just like this. I laughed so hard and so often. Dang that felt good!
This was so good. Watch the whole hour. You'll keep being shocked at what comes next.
Omg! It’s brilliant. There are zillions of community public access channels. We’re saved! 😂
Just watched. Amazing. Genius. Hilarious. The promise of more good things to come.
I'm halfway thru it and it is so much of a joy to watch! Stephen should make gigs like this a regular occurrence.
wait, this actually did happen? I thought he said he was going to DC with his family for his brother's wedding this weekend, so when I saw somebody post this early this morning I went 'oh that's a cute satire piece that somebody wrote. Look at all the detail! nicely done'.
if he starts a you tube channel i may finally cave with a subscription
“I don’t know why we invaded” 😂😂 “No spitting, please, on the floor, no.” Just a couple of great moments!
If anyone is wondering whether the existence of the show is the whole bit, rest assured that’s very funny all the way through.
I’m so happy I was able to see him lots of times at the Ed Sullivan Theatre duty his run. He is really genuine and his staff was always awesome. When it was hot outside they would pass out water, or raincoats in bad weather, they didn’t “have” to do anything
lol he referenced this on his last show
Made my morning- thank you for sharing
LOL last night Stephen Colbert spent an hour hosting public access "Only in Monroe"
I would totally watch this show on a regular basis. Jack White is a hilarious sidekick.
The review of chili dogs 30 minutes is some of the best cable access content ever produced in the history of cable access content.
so funny. 10/10 for the appearance by the regular hosts & Genevieve.
my wife was saying he should just go around doing random public access forever
Let's get this to 10.000.000 subscribers. www.youtube.com/@colbert
He’s having a blast doing this. Everything about it is perfect.
I just watched this and it was 💯 an hour well spent.
The segment with Jeff Daniels, the sandwich and the water bottle was incredible.
Colbert knows how to live. Trump knows how to be dead inside. Yes, he said the comedian was "like a dead person." As usual, he was projecting. Here's Colbert a day after his show ended. Still funny, joyful. Guests: Jeff Daniels, Eminem, Jack White. My THREAD. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJTX...
1. Donald Trump has never talked about himself so candidly. At 10:52 last night, he posted this on his social media site:
It was great that his last show was joyful and not mournful. Well done.
I would watch this show nightly. Probably costs a fraction of the network late night shows. If they could pretend to move it around the country, have a famous person or two, local interviews, and some good writing, it would work. I don’t think it has to be expensive to be good.
48 hrs later and this guy looks happy - rested! and ready to go again. What a little gem this is.
It's like watching SCTV, which I always loved. 🤪
Byron Allen! Colbert doesn't need CBS.
