Sixth anniversary of George Floyd's murder
Six years ago, George Floyd was murdered by the Minneapolis Police Department. This injustice caused a worldwide racial reckoning and highlighted the disparities facing Black residents. These issues are still prevalent today and they must be addressed. 1/
His murder by MPD initiated immediate investigations. It found that the City of Minneapolis and MPD engage in a pattern or practice of race discrimination in violation of the Minnesota Human Rights Act. 2/
One of the fundamental issues at the core of the problem is that Chauvin, with all his baggage, was a training officer and was partnered with a new officer at the time of the incident. He was showing a new guy “this is how we do things” when he pressed the life out of a man. 1/2
A lot of people seem to conveniently forget that police stations were being burnt down. People were mad, and uprising. But that got channeled into "let's reform police a bit or something." No, "burn the shit down" was the ACTUAL message of the people resisting.
Bro, my city councilman just voted to give MPD a fancy new wellness center(it failed thankfully), same MPD that is still on a wildcat strike since George Floyd, same MPD that is 20m over budget and can’t explain the overage, same MPD that just stood by while ICE terrorized our city
The same ones who “honored” Floyd gave covid relief funds to the cops then said the Democratic governors and mayors can’t use their police against ICE because the cops only work for Trump. And then they scream that you can’t say “Defund“ because ”the voters don’t like it” when they mean themselves.
Yes and.... They didn't stand by while ICE did their gestapo business. They protected and supported ICE, literally formed rings around ICE, aided and abetted ICE.
