Trump uses wartime powers to back $700M coal push
President Donald Trump invoked the Defense Production Act to allocate $700 million for coal power plant projects in Alaska and West Virginia, announcing the move from the Oval Office. He called the investment support for "clean, beautiful coal" and said the funds will build or refurbish coal-fired power infrastructure. The decision redirects wartime production authority to bolster coal at a time when utilities and states are shifting to renewables and raises climate and public health concerns because coal is the most carbon-dense fossil fuel and emits toxic air pollutants.
The federal government will spend $700 million on building or refurbishing coal power infrastructure across the country in a boost to “clean, beautiful coal,” President Donald Trump said Thursday in the Oval Office, reports @fischler.bsky.social.
Morrisey in all his glory as he continues to lead WV into the past.
Once Almost Heaven, West Virginia Now Blasted Mountains, And a big, polluted, River Life is gone there, Coal-dust disease Pollution all around us, blowing in the breeze Dust-filled roads, take me home To the place I once belonged West Virginia, polluted nightmare Take me home, country roads
Communities don't want coal burning in their communities. People don't want to work at the coal mines, especially since trump cancelled the funding for treating miners for "Black Lung".
While in the Army, I slept in a tent that used a coal burning pot belly stove for heat for a week. All of us would hack up black phlegm each morning. I’d love it if these assholes would have the same experience & then talk with a straight face about “clean” coal.
