Dodgers' Max Muncy exits after violent collision at first base

Max Muncy and Ildemaro Vargas were both injured after this nasty collision at first base. Both players were down for a while but got up under their own power. They each left the game.

Wow. Corbin Carroll badly misplayed that ball. It allows Santiago Espinal to score, who was pinch running for Max Muncy. 1-0 Dodgers.

It seems that Muncy veered inside the line after touching first, and threw his arms into Vargas as they collided. Vargas needs to try and touch the inside corner, but Muncy seemed to seek the collision. By the way, where the heck was the pitcher? That's an easy out if he does his job.

I agree the pitcher should have covered first and if he had done so, there would have been no collision. Having said that, it looked like Muncy deliberately plowed into Vargas to cause him to drop the ball in a manner similar to the way that runners from third used to routinely slam into catchers

Oh man that collision looked scary. Glad that it seems Muncy and Vargas both leaving the field under their own power but I hope they are both okay.
