Chicago Bears advance plan for stadium in Hammond, Indiana

sportsJun 5, 2026943,105

The Chicago Bears' board voted to advance plans for a new stadium and development project in Hammond, Indiana, formally moving the proposal across the Illinois-Indiana border. The board's vote is the franchise's first formal step toward Hammond and sends the plan into further development work, but it does not finalize construction, funding, or a team relocation. Indiana officials have framed the move as an economic opportunity, and the proposal puts new pressure on the future of the Bears' Arlington Heights property and on local tax, job, and transportation plans in the Chicago metro area.

I’m not a football person but I am a taxpayer who is tired of being taken advantage of by sports teams. Fuck the Bears. Let them become the Hammond, Indiana Bears. The City of Chicago should sue them if they call themselves the Chicago Bears, and no Chicagoan should ever go to a game again.

Also, every last member of Friends of the Parks, the organization that so vehemently opposed a museum dedicated to the art of storytelling that focuses on marginalized voices because they wanted the Bears to have a parking lot instead, should be shunned for eternity.

In general, I am against taxpayer money for stadiums. Its a losing proposition for the people of the city, as there is less money available for other taxpayer services.

McCaskey family has been playing a game this whole time, holding the city and state hostage. But Pritzker called their bluff and your children and grandchildren will thank him. Thx JB!!

Groovy Dave18

Sadly, as long as fans pay the exorbitant prices to attend games, it will never change. The cities steal from the poor to give to the wealthy. Yes, the stadiums provide jobs. But imagine how much money would go back to cities if owners didn't exist. (Green Bay!)

Richard Harold Ainsworth14

‪ An organization reportedly worth $10B asking for public aid is not going to get much sympathy from Illinois tax payers these days...or ever.

Randy Douglas13

The Packers model is looking better and better eh?

chisoxsteve.bsky.social11

So which NFL franchise wants to relocate to Chicago? I had no problem shifting my loyalties from the Chicago Cardinals to the Bears, so I can do that again. I'll cheer for the Bears until that happens, but as of today, no more Bears merchandise for me.

biscuitdrives.bsky.social10

The owners pocket millions billions the taxpayers get stuck with TAXES and tickets too expensive to enjoy a game.

hazdaz.bsky.social9

The cities themselves should OWN these teams. If we are putting up the money for their stadiums and paying for the cops to direct traffic and the repair crews to fix the roads due to heavy traffic going to games, then the citizens should reap any benefits.

curiousgeorge2025.bsky.social7

They still haven’t paid their share for the last stadium. If billionaires want money in kind, then make us silent owners.

sandy639.bsky.social7

I agree! But not just the Bears. Everyone sports organization that wants tax dollars to build a stadium Then charge us an arm and a leg to get in. I also say go where ever you want.

The working class citizens are tired of being treated like second class citizens. If they want a new stadium they can pay for it and not the taxpayers.

Roger B6

I am a football guy and I totally agree with this post.

Robin Byrd5

A lot of people are going to blame the state for allowing the Chicago Bears to leave for Indiana, but I will not be one of them. The team mishandled the entire situation from the get go. They never produced the studies or reports that addressed the traffic concerns or the infrastructure they wanted.

brbmd.bsky.social4

If taxpayers build a stadium then they can charge franchise owners rent…

Mad Barchetta4

I support you! Frankly, I don't understand why so many people continue to pay the ridiculous ticket, parking and concession prices to watch these games. It's gotten so far out of hand, it's mind-boggling!

Bobby Blue Byrd4

I’m a Bears fan and I agree 100%. Hoosier (“Who’s your”)Bears…

Steve Kooba4

The ~Billionaire owners need to realize that access to the city’s people and infrastructure is a privilege. Sorry you couldn’t pressure us into a deal to subsidize your already profitable business. Go back to what you’re good at - generating CTE

bwolfeinator.bsky.social4

exactly how I feel about the Chiefs. How f'n traitorous of the BILLIONAIRE Hunt family after all the support Kansas City has given them. Go ahead mother f'ers, cross the state line. Never support you again.

Not just blue, Bluey2

And take away "Bears," too. Let them be the Hammond Eggs.

Who has all the money?2

I am a HUGE sports fan and am also tired of being taken advantage of by sports teams. The owners seem intent on testing just how outlandish their behavior can become before there is a revolt. Sports is becoming affordable only for those on the upper part of the K shaped economy. #taxtherich

Boston Patriots -> New England Patriots Chicago Bears -> Chicagoland Bears

enahchine.bsky.social2

LA did that for years. It refused to build a taxpayer funded football stadium.

jay206.bsky.social2

I stopped patronizing the NFL after I read how awful they were treating the retired Black players. Not to mention Colin Kaepernick😡

geoffro8.bsky.social2

Oakland CA has entered the chat...

Dogs10Gods02

The McCaskey family's been screwing Bears fans and Chicago since Papa Halas died. F 'em, let them go, we'll end up with something better. 😡

ManProp2

Boston was better after saying no to the Patriots stadium. I think Providence is still paying that 20+ years later.

beachglitter27.bsky.social2

Several teams have their stadiums somewhere other than the city they are named after. I don't care where the Bears play as long as my tax dollars are not funding a money making enterprise for billionaires.

Earl2

I am a football fan. However, I agree that billionaire owners shouldn’t be able to extort money from the taxpayers for stadiums.

Tall Latte with a Lysol Boost2

Raider fan here. Totally get where you're coming from. Such a slap in the face to the very loyal Chicago fan base.

yourego🦅🦮2

Good luck filling the stadium. I don't think Bear fans want to pay the toll every Sunday. Indiana fans still have the Colts. Still think the Bears stay in Illinois. If not, I will be very disappointed and might have to root for another team. You don't screw over your fans like that.
