007 First Light, IO Interactive's new Bond game praised
IO Interactive's 007 First Light has arrived with early reviews and live playthroughs praising its story, atmosphere, and visuals. Backloggd gave the Xbox review four-and-a-half stars, and critics are comparing the game's cinematic action and set pieces to Uncharted. Players highlighted the use of authentic British dialogue, including coarse cigarette slang, which contributes to the period atmosphere. That mix of narrative strength and polished gameplay positions 007 First Light as a credible revival of Bond games and could lead to further sequels from IO Interactive.

double-o-69, baby, yeah. is that my DB9? very shagadelic. do the seats fold back
I'll settle for a No One Lives Forever remake.
I was going to get it for the ps5 but you have raised so many wonderful pc points.
is this real tell me it's real
Was watching a streamer play hitman and kept thinking "man this keeps turning into slapstick comedy"
[Tiny "Get Your Mojo Back" objective pops up in upper left of screen] AUSTIN, AS PLAYER MANEUVERS HIM AROUND 60s LONDON: Need to get my mojo back, yeah baby . . . Ooh that bird looks shagadelic but I need my mojo back . . . Maybe activating those generators could help me get my mojo back?
You'd then need to hire someone who can either do a really good or really bad Austin Powers impression to dub over all of his dialogue.
I'd drop the $70 in a heartbeat
I reviewed 007: First Light! A delightful spy thriller with a very relevant story, it's an impressive spy romp from a studio that's perfect for the job. Read here: www.thejimquisition.com/post/007-fir...
Pardon me Commander but ‘round these parts we call the poison dart the Shart Dart and I will not be taking questions
Re: it borrowing "from the Xbox 360 era", I think that's what really put it all together for me. It's just that kind of bombastic fun action game I could get fully immersed in for a few days that I took for granted in that era but missed ever since.
You can really tell that the developers not only love 007, they understand what makes it work.
Are the comments broken for anyone else? They show for a fraction of a second, then disappear, and it says 0 comments. Tried on a few different browsers, all the same issue.
007: First Light spoilers I can’t help but wonder if part of Amazons desire to develop the next 007 game in-house instead of IO Interactive, beyond the fact they’ll get a larger percentage of profits (even if overall profits are lower) is because First Lights narrative is overtly anti-AI.
I really liked how the plot seemed to be building up to Theia being Skynet, but no, it has entirely realistic problems that one guy reacted to in Bond villain style.
I had this same conversation with my bestie after finishing the game. It's not even a little subtle, and I imagine Amazon really does not care for that.
Given that this game has been in dev since 2021 - even if the narrative was nailed down considerably later - it's impressive how timely it is. Not just *that* it's anti-AI, but the specific flaws it focuses on. It's not the only reason I really like the game, but it's major bonus points.
Heard no one else mention it but 007 First Light was the first time I've ever heard the UK nomenclature for cigarettes, that being f*gs being used so openly in a triple A game
Seriously a scientist just says it in the break room
British, homophobic, or gay? Nightmare Russian roulette
It's kinda old-school but nothing to get overly-worked up about. "Having a quick fag" or "written on the back of a fag packet" etc. are similar UK colloquialisms.
Just imagining a scene where 1960's James Bond beats and throws out an obvious caricature of a sexual deviant henchman through a window. Someone barges in asking what was making a ruckus. Bond calmly lights a cigarette saying "oh you know, juscht schmoking a f*g" before leaving the room with a grin.
Last time my family visited America my parents were still smokers so I had to make sure they didn't say THAT word.
