Operation Overlord, D-Day commemorations mark June 6 anniversary
Veterans and ceremonies gathered in Normandy and around the world to mark the June 6 anniversary of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of northern France launched in 1944. On June 6, 1944, Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower ordered the largest amphibious operation in history, sending about 156,000 American, British and Canadian troops against fortified coastlines. Paratroopers were dropped overnight, and the first wave of landing vessels hit Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword beaches around 06:30, aided by Allied deception that misled German commanders into expecting a landing at Pas-de-Calais. The invasion opened the Western Front, began the liberation of Nazi-occupied Western Europe and remains a focal point for honoring veterans and wartime sacrifice.
It’s National D Day Remembrance 🦊 Meet and Greet 🦊 Today we honor those who fought on the beaches of Normandy, France. This historical day is a reminder of the day troops of Allied forces staged one of the most pivotal attacks against Germany during World War II. We will be okay Love Foxy

Good morning, Foxy! This is a very solemn day, indeed, and powerful. Without D-Day, who knows? The sacrifices made that day were immense and everyone of them should be remembered.
Good morning to Foxy and friends. Happy Saturday! 💗
Good Morning foxy and friends 🗽☮️ 82 years ago Operation Overlord was born 80 years ago Felon 47 was born a felon who does not know anything about history ‼️
Thoughts and prayers are with the family's of the brave soldiers who gave it all for our freedom.
Good morning! I finally watched The Longest Day from start to finish on Memorial Day. I've seen portions before. I realize the real thing was more chaotic than the movie showed. Those soldiers were incredibly brave.
Good morning, Foxy and friends!🌞☕️💙☮️ We solemnly honor the bravery and sacrifices of those who fought in a faraway place to defeat facism.🇺🇲 Have a safe and serene Saturday everyone!

Good morning Foxy ☕️☀️ Happy Saturday! Remember their sacrifice!
Good morning Foxy and friends! 💙👋🌧️ The weekend! Forecasting rain to start later this morning, perfect excuse for doing fuckall nothing today. And I'm really good at doing just that, so it's going to be a great day! Have a great day y'all! 😁
Good morning, Foxy and friends! My fear is that as we lose the rest of our WWII generation, young people will be disconnected from the evils our parents/grandparents fought against. And so we seem doomed to repeat it. Never forget.🌹
Good morning Foxy and so many others
So many good young men, dead long before their time.
Good Saturday morning to all. I've seen all the white stones. If you ever visit them, it will change you.
Good morning, @getyourfoxyback.bsky.social! They sacrificed so much for all of us. Families during that time sacrificed so much for us. Let’s continue to fight against the evil threatening to overcome us all.
I knew a man who had been at Normandy. He and his group were actually captured by the Germans. He had some amazing stories. He was Jewish but before he went off to serve his mother gave him a rosary and made him memorise the prayers...he said that may have saved his life. An amazing guy.
My great grandfather Cleon was there today at Normandy. He was a Chief Petty Officer Engineer aboard an LST, which are the vessels that launched the landing craft. He survived the war and returned home to Massachusetts, dying in the 1970s.
Good morning Foxy and Friends 😻☕💙🇺🇸 History tells us where we were and hopes we don't go back there.
Good morning, Foxy and friends! Wishing everyone a peaceful day. 🕊️
Good morning Foxy! June 6, 1944. What a day in our nation’s history. Such bravery to storm heavily fortified beaches and knowing you probably won’t make it. We need to bring back some of that courage today!
Good morning, Foxy! It’s an important day to remember. A large part of resilience is the belief it can be done, accepting the fear that it cannot and still doing it anyway because it must Yes, we can.
Never forget these heroes. 💙
Happy weekend Foxy and friends
Good morning and happy Caturday. Glad I still remember the dates of D-Day, Pearl Harbor Day, etc. (because I am old).
Good morning Foxy and Friends! 🙂💙☕ Enjoy this beautiful Saturday, but take care to stay cool. Have a super Saturday y'all! Be well.
My father landed on D Day. Now the Nazis are in our country. Somebody please land.
(We need to get back to our foundation) D-Day reminds us that democracy survives only through courage, accountability, solidarity, and active citizenship. Honoring those who fought fascism means defending... essayx.substack.com/p/the-courag...
Good morning, Foxy & friends! ☀️💙🌞 D Day can never be forgotten. Have a great Saturday!
Thank you for reminding us, Foxy. Both about D-Day and that we will be ok. People: these midterm elections will be crucial. Vote!
The idea that Operation Overlord and the entire W. Allied campaign in Europe was to prevent the spread of communism is *utterly* ridiculous and utterly ahistorical to what was going on. It had always been the overall goal by the Allies for a second front in Europe, especially by Stalin since 1941.
Operation Bagration and Operation Overlord were intended to take place at the same time since the *Tehran Conference* of 1943 with Stalin pledging to launch a summer offensive at the same time as you had the amphibious invasion into France.
Didn’t Stalin keep haranguing the western Allies to move up D Day so Soviet troops wouldn’t get mulched during things like operation Bagration?
I follow Emily, but she picks weird fights at times. That whole thread was a weird choice of bones to pick about Antifa. Declaring WWII all but over years early is an even weirder choice.
It’s very much a cold war era projection that i think overstates the inevitability of postwar conflict
I was having a nice morning and then I read that post
I mean yes, that's the easiest counterargument, it's difficult to read anything on the European theatre that doesn't include multiple side-notes about how much Stalin was begging the Western Allies to open another front to take pressure off the Red Army

My father fought in WWII, although in the Pacific theater. I hate to say it but in a way I'm glad he didn't live to see so many traitors try to destroy what he and so many others fought and sacrificed to protect. He would be deeply upset by the homegrown fascists.
A far less know attempt is the Dieppe Landing in 1942 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieppe_... Without all the experience from this D-Day would probably not succeeded. To see Son et lumière in Dieppe is a fantastic memorial of this landing. Saw it on the 60th anniversary in 2002.
For the last 5 or so years I've been bingeing both "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Band of Brothers" on every June 6th. About 16 or so hours of TV split over 2 days starting in about an hour.
Yes, a day we should never forget ❤️🩹 I posted about it this morning too as my Dad was one of the young soldiers that landed on Normandy Beach on this day. He was one of the lucky ones that came home.
My Pop landed on Omaha beach and as an Army infantryman and was there until after the Nuremberg trials were over. By all accounts he was the last person a lot of German soldiers met including several SS officers. At the end he was part of the group guarding Nazis during their war crimes trials.
We owe these folks everything and really can’t let this current regime destroy their legacy and render their sacrifices meaningless…
Today we should honor the sacrifices of so many that never came home. Sacrifices that someone like Trump can never comprehend. cbwrong.blogspot.com?m=1
