Three GOP senators vote to block Pulte from acting as director of national intelligence

Sens. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska voted Thursday to adopt a Democratic amendment barring Bill Pulte from serving as temporary director of national intelligence. The amendment stops Pulte from stepping into the acting DNI role while the Senate settles intelligence leadership. The vote came as a separate pair of Republican senators warned the Trump administration about a "significant" gap in critical foreign intelligence collection if leadership lapses. Blocking Pulte keeps an unconfirmed appointee from taking charge of the intelligence community during a period of potential collection shortfalls, underscoring congressional concern over continuity in U.S. intelligence operations.
