Professor Richard Scolyer, the renowned melanoma pathologist and 2024 Australian of the Year, has died aged 59 after a multi-year battle with aggressive brain cancer. Scolyer volunteered to be patient zero for a radical treatment and helped fast-track clinical trials aimed at treating his tumour type. In a final message he urged all Australians to "pursue their dreams and passion", and colleagues praised his pioneering research for transforming melanoma diagnosis and care.
