Crazy Taxi: World Tour announced, fans upset over GenAI use

SEGA announced Crazy Taxi: World Tour, a new Crazy Taxi entry coming to modern consoles in 2027 and built around races across five different cities worldwide. SEGA disclosed it used generative AI to support creation of background assets and said generated assets were subject to review by the development team. The company released arcade-style gameplay footage showing classic pickup-and-deliver mechanics updated for modern hardware. This matters because embedding generative AI into asset pipelines changes studio workflows and raises questions about artistic integrity and how legacy franchises are produced going forward.

At SEGA Corporation, generative AI is available as an optional support tool for developers, enabling our teams to focus more on creative tasks and ultimately focus on what matters most: delivering better games to our consumers.

Generative AI was used to support our teams during the development of background assets for ”Crazy Taxi: World Tour”. Assets generated were still subject to review by the development team.

No AI was used in reference to the performers in the game.

Crossworlds is really fun! I'm not sure if it's overtaken Transformed for me (I prefer the SEGA side of the crossover and the DLC isn't near as polished as the base game), but it's getting close, especially with the year two stuff.

Can't reply in the thread, so quote posting just to make this aspect clear This is from the Steam Page for the new Crazy Taxi. It is explicitly using GenAI, as phrased by the devs. My personal limit, and many other's personal limit, for acceptable GenAI use is "literally 0 at any point"
