Gordon S. Wood, the Pulitzer Prize winning historian of the American Revolution, was struck and killed by a motorist while walking in the Shaw's plaza in East Providence on Sunday; he was 92. Wood won the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for History for The Radicalism of the American Revolution and also authored The Creation of the American Republic. He taught at Brown University beginning in 1969 and was recently featured in Ken Burns' documentary The American Revolution. His books reframed the Revolution as a radical social and political transformation, a perspective that reshaped how the American founding is taught and debated.
