ProPublica investigation links Raw Farm raw milk to illnesses
NEW: In February, I visited Raw Farm. You may have heard of it. RFK Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow are customers. It supplies raw dairy products to 500 stores nationwide. And regulators have linked it to over a dozen recalls and outbreaks that have made hundreds sick. 🧵👇
With the rise of MAHA, I wanted to understand why raw milk had grown so popular. What I learned at Raw Farm was so eye-opening, I wondered how long it would take for another outbreak to occur. Unbeknownst to me, one was already underway.
“I’ve put a couple kids in the hospital, and they have been sick, but they recovered,” Both he and these kids’ parents should be in jail with bail denied
Is anyone surprised? The woman sold a candle that smells like her vagina. She’s nuts.
As long as I live I will never understand why people want to drink cow shit. You can never explain it to me. I will go to my grave in ignorance.
I would be fine with raw milk if it was limited to consenting adults and they refused all medical interventions when the inevitable happens
How is he a pioneer when raw milk was a thing before pasteurization was figured out many years ago? Also isn't pasteurization just heating milk up to a certain temperature? Not sure how that's considered unnatural.
All these "lol drink up MAGA" responses are so f-ing dispiriting. A lot of the victims here are children, who deserve none of this. Also, people are actively being lied to. The fact that this is continuing shows huge breakdown in government trust that has to be addressed with more than snark.
The thing with MAGA…I used to wonder if they were crazy or if they were grifters. I am old enough now to think they are selfish assholes that know better and need to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. 🖕RFK
Darwinism will step in and stop people drinking raw dairy products. Just give it time.
I grew up on a farm & we never drank raw milk. Not safe.
Lol. it's kind of beside the point but if you're gonna insist on raw milk "largest raw farm in the country" is the worst place to buy from.
The reason the USDA had to make an ad campaign to get parents to give their children milk is b/c in the 19th C, before pasteurization, giving a child milk regularly was a great way to insure they didn't survive to adulthood. Unpasteurized milk is nothing new. It's always been dangerous.
there are a lot of foods that are overprocessed, but milk isn’t one of them. it’s a pernicious lie to get dumb people to think it’s safe.
Thank you for this great report!
Annie, this is incredible reporting. Great work.
““You must be Mark,” I said, warning him I wasn’t one for hugging. “I’m a hugger,” he said, pulling me in anyway.” Clearly a man who doesn’t understand boundaries, which speaks volumes about him.
I think we should prosecute people who give their children raw milk for child abuse, but if adults want to drink it let them. They're thinning themselves out of the herd.
We're subjected on a daily basis to the most awful people.
Stupidity is a right of the stupid.
If we cannot stop it, may it get rid of the worst of us. Evolution in action.
make you wonder who's invested
Two ppl who I stopped listening to a very long time ago.
NEW: Regulators have linked Mark McAfee’s raw dairy farm to more than a dozen recalls and outbreaks that left hundreds of people ill. “I’ve put a couple kids in the hospital,” McAfee said. “But here’s the thing: I’m a pioneer.”
Lollll this is going to be my go-to excuse for everything from now on! ‘Yes, officer, I did run the last 3 red lights but here’s the thing: I’m a pioneer.’ What a POS and what a lot of pieces of S supporting this nonsense
“You must be Mark,” I said, warning him I wasn’t one for hugging. “I’m a hugger,” he said, pulling me in anyway. “I feel like I’ve known you for a lifetime.”. So not one for respecting people's boundaries from the jump
Then someone should sue his fucking ass right out of business….
My question is why anyone would choose to drink raw milk. I grew up in farm country. We didn't have dairy cows, we had beef cows. But the neighbors had dairy cows. Raw milk is disgusting.
Your grandmother almost certainly had one of these in her kitchen—a specially-designed milk boiler, because scalding "farm fresh" milk was a common task, and milk is annoyingly prone to boil overs. You boil "raw" milk because IT CONTAINS COW CRAP. People used to be smart enough to know that was bad
Wait, wait, does he really think that handling dairy in the way it would be in the 1880s or whenever is pioneering? Wtf?
Nothing more dangerous being a willful idiot than being an empowered idiot.
All these people would not have gotten sick had their 4 Humours been in proper balance. Prolly too much bile.
And if you're in the ~8% with the HLA-B27 gene, that salmonella infection from raw milk may give you reactive arthritis for the REST OF YOUF LIFE
"Haven't killed anyone yet but I just gotta keep trying."
He didn’t only put children and adults in the hospital, these people now have to battle lifelong, chronic conditions. But hey, you know, “pioneer.”
Pioneer is a greedy sociopath
Pioneer? Nah, people have been putting kids in the hospital for centuries.
I've put a couple of kids in the hospital. But here's the thing: I'm a Special Boy
If you drink this shit you deserve what happens to you, if you make your kids drink it you are a child abuser who belongs in prison
That's a license to kill.
I see the misunderstanding here. You see, he doesn't mean "Pioneer" as in "doing something new and innovative," he means "Little House on the Prairie cosplay from before everyone understood pasteurization."
Good grief! A pioneer? Does he not understand that raw milk was so dangerous that Mr Pasteur created this process! It is bizarre people don’t know this anymore.
Literally "Some of you may die, but that's a price I'm willing to pay." LITERALLY
NOT! What it means to be a PIONEER in enterprise is to bring INNOVATION to the table that ADVANCES consumer value. Abandoning progress, going back to the actual pioneering era of the 1800s, & sickening people is SOCIETAL REGRESSION fueled by stupidity and ego. The definition of MAGA & Trumpism.
I like to only drink water with lead in it. I’m a pioneer. 🙄
He's not a pioneer. He's satisfied with his selfish, harm inducing ways. It seems he's sadistic.
"I found a way to keep milk from putting kids in the hospital. But here's the thing: Je suis un pioneer." - L. Pasteur.
“I’ve put a couple kids in the hospital,” McAfee said. “But here’s the thing: I’m an asshole.” Fixed his quote.
Is “pioneer” the new “patriot”? He seems to not know prior to the invention of pasteurization, everyone drank raw milk. They’re all so proud of being morons.
It’s not pioneering to revert to a primitive (and unhealthy) way of life that our ancestors dealt with for thousands of years. It’s regression, not pioneering.
Pioneer? Psychopaths have been harming children for eons. Or did he mean in the Oregon Trail sense?
Here is an article about actual pioneers in Agriculture — bsky.app/profile/moth...
A “pioneer” that has done what other farmers did in the past
Was typhoid Mary a pioneer?
No, pioneers tread *new* ground, not old ground that we rightly moved on from almost 150 years ago
If I had a neighbor who told me he put kids in the hospital, at minimum I would call CPS. Then I'd tell the town to stay away from the person aware he is harming children who still continues regardless.
Sociopath with no inclination to conceal it.
Who would insure this prick or his product? And you'd think you would need evidence of sufficient means to pay for the eventual liability for you knowingly selling a product that hurts and could potentially kill somebody.
Not even into the actual story and I already know this guy is an asshole:
This is the speech a supervillain gives before Batman punches him into a coma
These self absorbed assholes need to go through some things.
This particular frontier ends in the 19th century.
If only they had done their own research
I don't know if this man is exceedingly delusional, evil, or both but I do know that confidently saying you're okay with putting kids in hospitals should get you put in jail for the rest of your miserable life, and that's me being generous.
"I killed a bunch of people," Musk said. "But here's the thing: I'm a pioneer."
If people want to kill themselves they can have at it, but killing children with their stupidity is beyond infuriating.
Pasteur was a pioneer, not this dickhead
you'd think that "we should not knowingly hurt children" would be the lowest common denominator of humankind, alas, nope.
My daughter went through a phase where she was feeding raw milk to my grandchildren. Now it makes me wonder if years later, some of the health issues that they have could be linked to this early use.
Vlad the Impaler: "I've impaled so many people I've lost count. But here's the thing, I'm a pioneer."
How can you be a pioneer when there ever only was raw milk until We started pasteurising it to make it safe. The pioneer was the guy who invented pasteurising ….
Ain't it cute that he thinks he's a pioneer doing something that was done so far back in time, before things like science and medicine understood what was happening to people. You're not a pioneer, Mark! You're freakin' caveman!!! 🤣😂🤣
if by pioneer you mean 19th century ignorance, then man youre killing it
We had 4 milk cows and I grew up drinking raw milk. However, I would never drink raw milk unless I saw how the milkers and buckets are cleaned, plus I would want to see the milk poured through a strainer. Too much can go wrong with large operations.
I’m a lawyer, and he is begging to be sued by the families of the people who fell ill drinking his milk. His statements will be used against him to his detriment in court. Lawyers are always grateful for these kinds of admissions. Of course, smart people don’t drink raw milk.
“I’m a pioneer”, wtf does that mean?
All this bullshit (literally) influencer promotion is gross
Two sentences that belong on this asshole’s tombstone.
It is ilegal to sell raw milk in Wisconsin. THE DAIRY STATE. Just they know a thing or two
Pioneer in what? It isn't like his milk is some breakthrough in health or some shit. The only way that quote is acceptable is drug trials involving major medical advancement. Not this shit.
But if another pioneer puts this guy in a hospital he'll whine how unfairly he was treated
He's not a pioneer, he's a profiteer.
You can reach out to him directly and let him know what you think of his pioneering spirit: rawfarmusa.com/contact
Even the pioneers knew to boil raw milk. This guy should be shut down.
This dude should get the chair for murder
He’s a pioneer of sickening children? Yeah, he’s right up there with Josef Mengele 🙄
Imagine the manufacturers of any other product blithely saying “well I’ve put a couple of kids in the hospital with my product but no problem because I’m an innovator looking to make a buck.”
“Hey, what about all the kids I DIDNT kill? You never asked me about them!”
Pioneers put their kids in hospitals too… or the ground. Then they learned about pasteurization and FUCKING USED IT.
Don’t pioneers do new things? He’s just going back to a time when kids died unnecessarily. What an asshole. He should be in jail.
Everyone with the last name McAfee is a douce bag.
"I’m a pioneer." Yeah, we all know the death rate of the pioneers in this country from milk borne and other pathogens.
"The defence rests your honor"
That’s the kind of quote that should park him in prison or leave him destitute
This all reminds me of reading The Jungle in junior high and the reason behind food safety regulation.
If raw milk was safe then there would have been no reason for Louis Pasteur to pick up a text tube!
Such a well-reported and written article! I miss the days when this kind of reporting wasn't so rare.
Pioneer eh? Has he tried raising the temperature high enough to kill pathogens and bacteria while not damaging the proteins in the milk? He should try that. If he can get it to work hill be a billionaire.🙄
Remember that one libertarian kid we all knew in college? The one obsessed with raw milk and flouride? They only got stupider from there.
No. That's not what pioneer means. He's just an unregulated, negligent salesman of a product he knows is dangerous.
I wonder if he'd still say that if it were *his* kids in the hospital! I know I know, of course he would, because he's a piece of shit of a human being!🖕🤨
Anecdotally, I can tell you that 100% of raw milk enthusiasts are nuts. This article is a portrait of a cult.
“I’m seven months pregnant, and I drink raw milk because that’s how God has created it to be,” Ma'am your god 'created' it to be consumed by baby cows, directly from the teat. Any other uses are, like all agriculture, inherently unnatural. You've gotta do some processing.
Imagine being proud to drink milk seasoned with live cow poo.
I've seen cows. Screw that.
Again I am wondering how our species didn’t go extinct aeons ago. I guess there’s just enough sane people to balance out the raw cows milk/anti vax/horse medicine crowd.
Pioneer women tried their best to not kill their kids with bad raw milk. No available hospitals for their kids. Historically, they boiled the milk to kill the pathogens. Google vintage milk boiler.
That's what's so frustrating. These people aren't going back to their roots or whatever, they're as ignorant of the "basic common sense" precautions that people took as they are of modern pasteurisation processes.
@sarahtaber.bsky.social has a great explainer up on YouTube about this - no one drank raw milk!! Mom boiled it!
Old recipes (1930s, some in 50s) tell you to "scald" the milk. How soon we have forgotten.
These are people who gave their children raw milk, on purpose. Hard to sue someone when you're an accessory.
One of these days a raw milk parent is gonna give it to someone else’s kid who’s over on a play date, and then we’re in business
is he not presenting it as healthy? I thought someone would at least take a pop. if they and he waste a shitload on lawyers all the better
My question is why anyone would choose to drink raw milk. I grew up in farm country. We didn't have dairy cows, we had beef cows. But the neighbors had dairy cows. Raw milk is disgusting.
I honestly don't understand why he thinks adults should drink cow milk at all. It's not necessary. Most humans that have been alive in the history of humanity never had non-human milk (as babies).
Because they're told it's natural and healthy and common sense and shit. Same people who think that removing a large portion of the workforce will make them richer, somehow? Complete ignorance of the world around them, and being told that they're all *actually* smart because they have no education
To own the Libs. Don’t you feel owned that people are putting their kids in hospital
